Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Respect?

I realize this is a naive question for an anonymous forum, but couldn't we all be a bit more kind and respectful on this forum?

I've been reading through the posts today to understand what's happening, and I've been shocked with how mean spirited some of the posts have been. Luckily, some of the worst ones seem to have been removed, but the tone and content of many posts are just mean.

Everyone impacted by these layoffs is a fellow human being with their own stories, families, challenges, aspirations, strengths and imperfections.

This seems to be a good forum to learn about what's happening and prepare ourselves, but it's saddening to be reading through and then just smacked in the face with some of these mean-spirited posts.

The US government should not give aid or tax breaks to any corporation that outsources jobs.

Sorry you can’t make sense of apparently 17 words.

It still Makes more sense than this ignorant comment “ The others commenting on here about deadweight etc don’t realize that to make it 20 yrs at XOM you were probably on a VP list at some point early in your career too.”

@ignorantselfidentifier

Is that a complete statement?

“Thinking that to be around 20 years requires being on a VP fast track is just ignorant..”

It’s like you just strung 17 random words together.

Bullpen? Typical old oilfield. How do you like being referred to as bulls by your senior leaders? All you are to them are cattle.

When jobs are cut everywhere and pushed to India it makes one wonder (outside of what is almost the same as slave labor - work for next to nothing) what the real motives are for companies promoting massive outsourcing to India.

Seems to me like the people here are giving more respect than they were given in the end.

Mean spirited? Some of the rooms on these boosted worked 60 or 80 hour weeks or more for 20,30+ years to have someone come in and trash their career, unethically label them to the general public as poor performers and in the worse environment for employment maybe since the last depression so some jackass can save his pride and a dividend and you wonder why these people are upset? unreal

Respect has nothing to do with Facts and Truths. Facts and Truth are what this platform should offer. I think we all know what a fact is but below is how TRUTH differs and has nothing to do with respect.
What do Truths mean?
Truth, is the validity of the collected fact. Unlike facts, truths are not arrived at by logical conclusions or assumptions. Moreover, a truth has to be either seen or experienced to prove its validity. Truths cannot be statistical data for that matter. They are universal in nature. A truth is a truth anywhere in the world. Compared to facts, truths are more subjective in nature. Truths can be momentary. This is because of the fact that many scientific truths were disproved not long ago. Unlike facts, truths exist at least for the moment. For example, if you say you are in London at the moment, it points out to the truth of the statement for the moment. The next day you may be elsewhere. Truths can answer only one question, namely ‘why.’

20 years is starting in late 90s, where the company didn’t have significant problems like it has the past 5 years. Thinking that to be around 20 years requires being on a VP fast track is just ignorant..

I also use this forum to get information. I try not to pay too much attention to the ugly remarks although I do understand people are angry and need a space to vent. Just do your best to move on to the next comment or post if the response isn’t beneficial to you.

Senior management’s performance evaluations are based on who they pick for the bullpen of next leaders. So they will try damn hard for their picks to succeed. If you aren’t picked early you’re out. And the ones they picked will be forced through. I’ve only seen 1-2 demoted for terrible performance.

Yeah. The VPs pick their horses pretty early. If you aren’t on the circuit by 6 years for supervisor then they don’t have room for you. The pyramid gets tight for upper roles pretty quick. If you are male it’s even tighter now.

Yes! Early career they love you! You are the best! Then they ghost you! If you have less then 6 years good luck! If your aren’t a supervisor by 6 yrs you should leave.

You might be seeing the reflection of a company that just threw away a large part of human assets in the most undignified way. 20+ year employees suddenly told they s— because the company is mismanaged. The others commenting on here about deadweight etc don’t realize that to make it 20 yrs at XOM you were probably on a VP list at some
point early in your career too.

I am with you. The internet has turned into a cesspool - having a clean and normal discussion space somewhere would be appreciated. You should see some of the posts my friends and family share on FB OMG
