Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Another executive gone?

I just heard another executive left the UP yesterday. The EVP and chief legal officer left. Did anyone else hear about that?

The lady quit. Just like a lot of people do and go elsewhere. You conspiracy theorists have got to get a life and stay busy with it. You’ve got way to much time to think.

Highly educated, experienced, tough corporate attorney who happens to be a female African american abruptly departs a “C” level position from one of the most successful companies (arguable, I know) in American corporate history? Yeah, there is definitely something else happening here we aren’t seeing.

Those who are saying “she knows something” and the “stuff is about to hit the fan” have no idea. People leave companies all the time - after all, she filled the job after someone left. Life will go on just as it has before.

She is the HBIC of legal at Allstate. I’d say that’s a promotion, good for her.

Lol the jokes write themselves here. An executive literally left UP to work for an insurance company. UP is a joke and a shell of the company it once was. The quality of life is zero and UP isn’t even allowed to recruit potential applicants at respectable colleges anymore.

I think she was in over her head from the beginning. Heard her speak several times and was totally unimpressed. I’m guessing her leaving was mutually considered by her and lance/the board

Commuting from where? What was her daily drive time? The last post hits on a very good point. What was her daily workload like? In the past 2 years, how much litigation paperwork do you think she was dealing with? A chief legal officer is one of the most important positions of any corporation. She probably did get tired of the nonsense of the UP BS. I really do wish her well. I can only hope she came to her senses and actually realized what the UP is doing is wrong.

She may have just gotten tired of saving UP from themselves. Coming up with legal strategies for a company that is mired in perpetual litigation is as exhausting as it is thankless.

I wish her all the best.

She left for family reasons.
She has been commuting this whole time.
COVID allowed her and her husband to be home together so she found a job closer to home.

I remember in 2018 someone with a nice title resigned in IT department and couple of months later they had layoffs in IT department in November 2018 and again in February 2019.

She took a lead position at Allstate, not State Farm. I agree completely with her knowing something. There's no way someone in a position like hers just resigns.

You can’t keep making profits on cutting. That’s unsustainable.

If the chief legal officer abruptly leaves a company of this size, then there's going to be questions. Think about it. The chief legal officer of a company has left. The chief LEGAL officer. What do you think she was in charge of? What do you think she knew? You made the comment about the stock was high, and the profitability. The ship doesn't have to be sinking to be in trouble. How profitable do you think the UP has been this year with all of the derailments they've had? Last time I checked, we just replaced a bridge in AZ because of one. A chief officer doesn't just leave a company like that without the board asking questions.

Wonder if 8% forced her out.

Sorry, but the ship isn’t sinking. What we consider a sinking ship, the board of directors and stock holders consider a success. As long as the stock price is reasonably high and the company is profitable, thing will remain the same. We look at the layoffs and downsizing as detrimental to the organization, but the execs consider these things to be great. The company will never go back to how we knew it and we might as well face this.

I heard she left too! She did resign and went to some insurance company. I can't imagine why she left such a great company like the UP though.

Yes she's gone! She was replaced by by an interim person to fill in until a suitable replacement can be hired on

They left on Saturday? C’mon man. Everyone quits on Friday. I’ll label this fake news.
