Thread regarding Optum layoffs

When will the media pick up on these layoffs?

Since the beginning of the year (starting with that large layoff of 3,000+) the layoff numbers are in the thousands. All while the leaders of this company continue to reap the benefits & make record amounts of money. At what point does the media pick this up & expose what is happening? I get large corporations do layoffs, but this is outrageous. The leadership lip service & reference to gratitude & values/culture is beyond disgusting. Actions are not aligned to words.

yes! in the us empire, shareholders, quarterly earnings reports, and boards of directors profit was all that mattered. employees were disposable with few if any employment rights (except s-x, race, origin) in the us empire.

Layoffs are not a particularly exciting story for the media at the moment. UHC is among many profitable companies who are laying employees off. ....remember, companies have obligations to their shareholders, not their employees.

People still employed are keeping quiet. The severance agreements contain a confidentiality clause along with anything else someone might want to take legal action about (Age, disability, FMLA, etc. The terms are non-negotiable and you have a deadline to sign. If you break the agreement, they can request the severance money back.

There were very few if any real reports./journalists in the US empire. They were corporate propagandists in lock step with corporations and the corrupt government. 400yrs+ of hustling, huckstering etc....Nothing will change except some cosmetic 'changes' and more US style empty rhetoric. No reporter will state reality in a truthful no bs way. 2008, not one exec was put in prison for all the US financial shannagans. 2020, nothing has changed.

UHG never answers questions from the media about layoffs. Reporters will never get the company to confirm or deny anything.

The US "media" is a lapdog for the corporations. Simply a yes man mouth piece for the system. Sickening empire

There actually is a reporter that follows this and the United health care site. I spoke to them. It is hard to find anyone willing to talk

Since the layoffs are spread out throughout the country, it's not news. The last time the media paid attention, they went to the Minneapolis office for comments. The spokesperson for United would only speak to the less than 100 people let go from that office. No news. Nothing to see here, move along.

My understanding is the severance agreements contain a confidentiality clause. The media won’t hear about it because people won’t risk their severance.

And since they’re targeting those with tenure and higher salaries that severance is a big deal for most.

The employees can help the media get wind of it...

The media will not get wind of this. Because the company knows the rules, regulations, laws to circumvent them and avoid media coverage. And, the business cases that must be written prorect the company.

Norman Wright and his VPs should be fired instead of lower level employees. They are the ones who mismanaged the Customer Office team and will be reassigned to ruin another team. If a team isn't performing and providing value, it is the upper level management's fault. The lower level employees are just doing the work they are assigned.
