Chevron spent millions to redo their offices to open work plan. They implemented it on half of the floors in the downtown offices. Then they found out open workspace doesn’t work so they converted them all back to offices, don’t worry there was cost savings claimed on everyone of those decisions.

@fzx+16CUZQrK wow they did that to you? That’s just arrogant. Proves my point managers vs leaders. A true
Leader would not do something so stupid.

I understand completely and the problem is the next thing xom did was preach their work at home flexibility which once people started to use was used against them in order to pip (lay them off). I cant help but wonder if it was intentional.

My job entailed detailed analyses of deep and complex scientific and legal documents. When I was forced to move from a single occupancy office to a noisy and busy open office environment, my productivity suffered and I ended up doing more and more work at home. Managers just refuse to accept that the open plan (cubicle) workspace just doesn’t work for some jobs and the types of people that are best suited for them.

I’m sure a manager or sup hiding behind his glass door wouldn’t know about their employees problems with open workspace. And most of them won’t bother to tell you since it’s another reason for you to add them to the PIP (lay-off) list. So instead of asking - measure productivity. I don’t think it’s safe to measure by the 3-4 jobs you have laid on each person. Sure quantity =more but how is quality? Well just read the headlines.

Open concept only works if EVERYONE is respectful... which many are not... someone with ADD and handling the financials spends more time starting over because others have no respect when you are trying to concentrate... actual employee

Most people I work with nor I have never had a problem with the open concept workspace. This just sounds like the complaining of whiney journalist making the point that privacy = more productivity.
