  • Terrible corporate management
  • Manager and Assistant Manager treated employees unfairly on a regular basis.
  • Unrealistic sales goals. Managers are mostly a nightmare.
  • You are just a number to them. Don't do it
  • I used to love Barnes & Noble, now I don't.
  • Extremely stressful work environment
  • Management tactics are not fair. It is the fast food of book retail.
  • Do not trust them,

Store Manager here. 18 years with the company and on the new reviews ALL Ds? I would never review any of my team the way my area manager just reviewed me. Why would anyone want to work for a company that basically says "there is nothing good about you, you don't meet my standards at all?"
All this based on a "single word" in the new reviews. When I gave the reviews for my store I looked at the whole of the question and not one word so my store team was Cs and Bs. Yet my review is straight Ds based on her opinion of how the store is doing.

It is not really damage control. It is like being in a cult mindset. These upper management people are in it for the long haul, they will believe what they are told and refuse to look at real facts. So yeah, BN senior ops people are in a cult.

My manager posts here too. Calls it “damage control”
That’s what the positive posts are - Mgrs , DMs, Corporate... NOT employees. We KNOW better, how things are !

Our manager hates this page, she complains to everyone and tells us not to believe it. The irony here is that she posts on here and the whole store knows it.

Yes it is ! HORRIBLE management and that DM- despicable excuse for a leader. If BN knew about his side deals with companies and authors, he’d have been long gone!

I come to read this on my lunch break (yes, managers warned us not to read this and learn the truth) and the bad news never stops. I love when the company posts fake praise, we all know better. And we all know anyone looking for a good job isn't coming to interview at B&N.
