Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

ExxonMobil Should Start the Clean-up by getting rid of RTD aka URC

Who thinks that RTD/URC is the first place to get rid of? It has hired ineffective highly paid PhDs and created a slew of sly and worthless wanna be leaders who spend time s—ing to bosses and solving worlds greatest challenges through power point bullets. Several of these low lives became supervisors or moved to other parts of the organizations and might continue to push the same nodding yes boss and powerpoint behavior on everyone.

I wonder how many people think, the first place to start saving money is to get rid of RTD and all the employees it has hired in past 15 years? Why to take our pensions and 401k?

@1vmt+16BKa4jv I do not have a PhD but certainly have respect for those that worked hard to get one. I hope you find something that you love.

@CSR is G0ds gift - you are totally correct. Much of CSR’s work really is effectively “contracted out” to universities, or a result of belonging to consortia or simply buying the company with the expertise. It can’t be too long until someone at the top sees through the BS and decides to cut out the middle men and close Clinton.

I had a PhD in ChemE and built Exxon Mobil Corporation. What happened when the simple engineers took over?

U r quite repetitive with your serial posts - repeating yourself again and again.
Did u have some bitter experience with a scientist at some point?

This board is about 'layoffs' - not some organizational genocide, friendo.

I do not have a PhD but can say some of the best people I had the pleasure of working with in my years at xom were PhD’s.

Anti-intellectualism among the poorly educated is rampant and pitiful.
Like the roughnecks that were replaced by automatization, their days are numbered.
A single thread filled with arguments wasn’t enough to counter this id–tic, resentful, and misguided proposition.
Go check your QAnon and watch the convention.

The original thread has an interesting and perhaps the right take while I also agree with @yue+16BKa4jv 's assessment. Those two people with two tremendous accomplishments (father of stratigraphy and Li-ion battery inventor) at URC and CSR would get beaten to submission, trampled by poor attitude incompetent supervisors and rapidly PIPed with the kind of low to high level management that we have at RTD and CSR.

While the argument about PhDs being important and possibly with great talent is a nice dream, the PhDs that we hired and I work with are all magicians. They do nothing and put all their effort in pleasing bosses and making powerpoint and filling budgets and plans in excel sheets.

The two sterling examples that you gave both had to leave for academia and that was many decades ago when management was not as nasty. We don't have that kind of talent or any talent left at these companies. Biggest smhucks and so called researchers are already making exit plans and enrolling in management courses to find a new pond to poison.

Instead of getting rid of the PhDs how about just letting them do their jobs instead of making slide decks all the time to explain to the dumb–s executives what the company does? URC invented seismic stratigraphy and the Vail curve. What has anyone else in the company done besides CSR (invented the lithium-ion battery, management shelved it, and the guy who invented it eventually quit, went to academia, and won a Nobel prize while starting the mobile phone industry)?

Why the hell are we putting people with Bachelors degrees who haven’t ever done research in their lives in charge of R&D?
