What is the script or talking points managers are using when calling the furloughed employees when (possibly) laying them off? Is it true if a bookseller hasn’t been contacted by now, they’re probably being let go? What rule of thumb are managers using in determining who, if any, was called back?

The New York Times is trying to learn more about the overall layoff figure, the letters and details of the process if anyone is able to provide more information. Confidential tip site here: https://www.nytimes.com/tips
If you didn’t get out after the last round of firings. It’s hard to feel sorry for you.
You say “good luck” , you’re right there ! Going to take a lot of luck to secure a good position in this pandemic.
The script is: you’re being separated from BN effective Sept 4, 2020. You will receive a letter in the mail stating this.
It happened to me yesterday. My store manager called & that’s what I was told. No: we’re sorry & thank you for your 20 years at BN. I had been calling the store every month to touch base with them & ask how I could help. I even offered to work reduced hours. But I was lied to every time. I was told things were improving & that employees who had more years with the company would be called back.
Best of luck to all of you who read this. I hope you all find fruitful & satisfying employment soon.
All the bashing of the ex employees on here, for TWO YEARS !
“Get over it”, “move on!”, “ why do you come on here and still post?!”
Why ?
Tried to help you people !
But instead you watched your friends & coworkers fired and took a breath And thought “ glad it wasn’t me” turn into “ they’re gone & now I have more work put on me!”
You chose to stay, knowing it could ( AND WOULD) happen again.
look up “KARMA” in one of your overpriced BN books.
“ Been warning people since 2018 !
None of you listened !”
Couldn’t agree more ! If you didn’t listen, can’t feel sorry for you !
Been warning people since 2018 !
None of you listened !
Has anyone received the official termination letter from HR? When is the effective date?
Some of the managers pets have been called back. Also young men that can do the heavy lifting and others who have open schedules. In short those with no obligations like school, children, spouse or a full time job. Those who don’t think and will jump as high as they are asked to.
Carrie- is this what they said to you?
This is the perfect opportunity for SMs to get rid of the people they've been wanting to get rid of. "I am sorry we can't afford to hire you back, but we'll let you know if we need you for the holidays. Good Luck."
This pandemic has worked well for mgt to clean house even more.
Lesson learned: Don't even trust this company, do your research and find a place that actually has a good reputation and is making money.
