Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Greener pastures

I just want to come back and say that moving on from SLB and finding a new career choice has been the biggest weight off my shoulders. I worked for SLB for 5 years and in April got let go. I was upset at first but bounced back quickly and just found a new job. Making 30% more instantly from my pervious salary. I would’ve f—ed around for years trying to move up that stupid grade structure just to incremental get sh– raises. Now looking back and reflecting on my time I should’ve never settled working there that long. It’s not that great of a company and to be honest the salary competitiveness is on the low end. They’ve been cutting corners for years nickel and diming employees. It’s the little things, I’m so relieve I don’t work for this damn company anymore. I just had to get this off my chest because I really don’t care what any of them think anymore. It’s a poorly run company and middle management is a joke. I ran circles around my boss but this dude knew the right people and was always looked upon as a key contributor. I absolutely hate the good ole boy mentality within SLB and it’s the most toxic environment for newer employees. It’s a dying industry and a bloated sh– company. Good riddance!!

Congrats! Like others I agree: getting let go was the best thing that could have happened to me. I remember smiling when they told me which confused my manager. Overall I had a positive experience and a decent direct manager, but frequent upper management changes, shifting strategic priorities, and lots of blue tape made progress difficult. My unsolicited advice to others: the grass is greener on the other side! I just accepted a job offer making much more than I made at SLB and will be doing something I enjoy.

Nice speech and Sooooooooooooooo truth..I can remember a manager in corridor screaming . ''Management by fear..nothing else ! "" and the guy was laughing...This company works , managed and live on prehistorical system and style ..

Yeah and now they are calling people back via a temp agency and offering pay between 1/2 and 2/3’s of what people were getting before corona-are they thinking people are that desperate to work for them? They s—ed the minute they wanted people to decrease their pay. Freaking nuts! You can find something else to do. Or look at it as an opportunity to go back to school etc. definitely better jobs out there with better benefits.

Same story here. I left the big blue and had an instant 40% pay increase followed by nearly 16% over the past 2 years. I’m valued where I work now

Is toxic everywhere you go guys and it is really what you make it. The grass is greener or not depending on how you want it to be. I worked for SLB and other majors and same all of this everywhere, trust me.

Same story in many most big oil & gas service companies. Huge management structures (overpaid and incompetent (top) management) where the only thing that counts is how well you can s— up to the the guy higher up in the hierarchy.

I did the same 3 years ago. Got sick of the 'promotions' which were handed out with a load of bullsh1t and a paltry wage increase. The 1, 2 and 3% yearly increases (usually less than the inflation if they deigned to pay an increase). for hapless manufacturing staff were embarrassing and even worse, much worse, the indoctrinated drones used to think that they were lucky!!!
My first year in my new job I don't get a rise naturally, but year 2 was 9% and my last review in June was 8%. My starting salary was just over 20% more than Schlumberger with a lot less of the paperwork.

Congrats!!! I totally agree with the toxic environment and the good ole boy system. I worked for a boss that was in way over his head, but because of who he knew, he is still there!!! People were laid off and he was kept. Maybe now the truth will finally come out. They can’t be protected forever.
