Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

RULA ended early. Layoffs to follow?

In a recent town hall Mr. Fritz stated if RULA isn't extended (which it's not), then they may have to look at making more permanent measures on a smaller scale. Cold Connect and HDC have already been significantly impacted. Lots of movement at executive level. So with unemployment at an historical high, and limited job opportunities accross the nation, if there is any legitimate information regarding job cuts please pass along.

Still believe it was a test to determine how few employees that they need to actually require to continue to function.

The writing was on the wall as soon as RULA took effect. UP basically gave their junior managers one week of every month off to look for other jobs. Now that its ending you can expect cuts across the board.

This is how these things work: shareholders make plenty of money, but it isn’t enough, so they tell the senior executives to cut costs. To do that, you can reduce your services, streamline them, reduce labor costs, or some combination of the three. UP went all-in on the third option, using junior managers (mostly kids fresh from school) to do the dirty work. Now with labor down to size, they’ll cut at the next level. Rinse, wash, and repeat, until everything of value is consumed then sell whatever is left and start over.

Vena thought he’d hit the mute button but he didn’t and he let out a ten second fart to the tune of O Canada. 🇨🇦

Up doesnt buy good enough tools to warrant stealing. I have found better tools buried in ditches.

Just please don’t fire anymore executives. We need at least five people on every conference call to say “THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!”

Go to where the worker in North Platte live I’m sure the company could save money with all the tools they have at home. Check their garages.

Yeah we’ve seen the work you’ve put out of North Platte, or as referred to here as North Splat because of all the junk you put on trains. Learn to fix an engine and then talk.

Heard here at our North Platte shop we have been busy with work and pulling locomotives out of storage if that continues they have no choice but to call some machinist back to work. I don't see any more layoffs here at our shop regardless of the car loadings. We are here to work hard and get these locomotives back on track without any issues. Hopefully in couple months will see some calls bringing us brothers back to work.

I feel like carloadings need to hit that 160,000 mark for there not to be more cuts. Them keeping the shops closed also tells me they won’t make any cuts yet. Now when they decide to open those shops they have said it won’t be the same capacity as it was a when it closed. Then if carloadings aren’t at that 160000 yes there will be cuts. Isn’t this Venas last year at UP? Could the end of cuts be near? Hard to say anymore. We can only control what we can control. Stay safe out there don’t give them any reasons. Do your job.
