Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Way to go South Western Air lines!

Thinking of their employees!

Southwest is offering leaves of a minimum of six months with benefits and 50% pay for most employees, excluding pilots, who would receive about 61% pay. The maximum leave period varies, and the airline said it "may return employees to work earlier if needed for operational needs."

Buyouts are being offered to employees depending on their time with the company. Employees with more than 10 years experience would receive a year's pay, health benefits and four years of flight privileges. Pilots would receive about two-thirds of their average salary for five years, or until they reach age 65.

Before SBC bought AT&T, the severance package was 2 weeks per year of service up to 52 weeks. It was the SBC executives that cut the package to 6 months. Don't get me wrong, AT&T had layoffs every 2 years for the past 30 years but SBC has taken that to a new level. IBM is even worse as they cut their severance package to 3 months. It is the sign of the times as corporate leaders have so much of their compensation tried to the stock price that they'll do anything they can to rise the stock price. If they don't they will be out of a job and someone else will step in. I have worked with many good managers and that is what keeps me going during times like these and i try to be more like them than the bad managers that I have work with. I hope I'm making a small difference for the people that work with me.

Hey, remember a couple of years ago when Randy celebrated the republican tax cut for corporations by saying att would be able to create 8,000 - 10,000 new high-paying jobs?

Good times.

Now this is a prime example of a “World Class” company unlike T that has always wanted to be, but has just never made the grade!

Why would AT&T consider such nonsense?

If you owned AT&T, would you consider such nonsense?
