The union does not care about the wire tech position! It was just a temp position! But what about the Directv guys that got put into that position? They worked for Directv with a future in mind! Not as good as the core position but a whole lot safer than the wiretech position! They were never in the red and there was never any layoffs, and or working quarter to quarter waiting till it was your time to go. It was a place to just go to work, do your job and get paid, T has ruined Directv and not just the service but the employee morale of what is left of the Directv techs!

I am just as worried as to how all of this new 5G light spectrum will play out in the rural areas, especially when we see the new phones come to market. Still a lot of areas with spotty cell service. These folks aren’t thinking self driving cars or watching videos. As soon as my uncle gets dependable voice cell service the landline is gone. The last frontier.
In my org which is in OOR, the techs aren’t productive more than 50-60% of the week. Which means our billable time isn’t enough to pay our weekly wages yet, the management team deems it necessary to keep hiring more technicians. I understand why, but their grand plan has not yet come to fruition! Therefore, the company is losing money and are doing the opposite of shrinking the business...go figure! Nothing T does ever makes sense because of a poorly qualified management team!
The company wants you to be productive to a state that the company can declare you produced more money than you are paid. Now isn't that a surprising thought! You must be aware that you face this fact anywhere you go for employment. So if the process is losing money, something must be done! I hate it, but this fact will always apply. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Capitalism will always beat socialism.
Why did you hire on? Let me guess, the money. It had to be better than your alternatives. Why was it better? Someone negotiated the wages. Who was that someone? The Union. Who is the Union? Members. What would you make without someone negotiating for you? Less money.

with 5g coming up with broadband speeds of up to 10gbps . can you imagine how many devices you can run on 10 gigs? wireline is in the same boat as direct tv techs. rural areas will probably not be affected by 5g but big cities and suburbs surrounding big cities will be affected by 5g. which will result in "disruption" thousands of jobs will not be needed to maintain copper lines or create orders for new service.
If you are in a union represented title you don’t have to. Resign or quit b–ching. Maybe it’s time y’all walked out on the Union. From where I sit the last walkout got you nothing but lost pay for while you were off. The people who worked while y’all were out did a better job anyway.
DTV techs are even lower on the totem pole than wiretechs if that's possible. I really don't know why ANY of us are paying dues to the sorry CWA!
