Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Contact Illinois Senators for illegal use of WARN ACT exeption by AT&T

If you are an AT&T Employee from IL who was laid off and given only 2 weeks, please contact your ILLINOIS Senator. AT&T has falesly used Pandemic has the reason for the layoff (IL gave exception due to Pandemic to override WARN act.) Now I see many AT&T contractors from India in the same group were not let go since they are paid very low wages (They come through 3rd party companies via H1B1).
Not to mention so many contractors still have jobs in India via Tech Mahindra/IBM/etc. Why the hell they would ask for Pandemic Exception from IL WARN Act?

IL should not have given the WARN act exception to AT&T.

The requirement for H-1b visa is that the company could not find an American citizen with the skillet. Pay is not a factor in whether someone receives H1-b. In fact, they are required to be paid prevailing wage rate. If they are paid less than you. It means you are overpaid. This is probably why you are surplused.

Would the WARN act let you negotiate a lower salary to keep your job? Would it let you opt oht of the pension and receive the extra 20% of 401k match (full 5% vs. 80% of 5%)? What do you think would be better for you under the WARN act?

Does this only apply to Illinois. I understand that this go round there were approx 2600 employees impacted. Anyone know about Texas.

What would have been different for you if the WARN act had been followed? It's not like layoffs were a big surprise at this point. Are you saying that you would have landed a job at Tech Mahindra if you had been given more notice?

Have seen this company this do some stupid things but I doubt that the haven’t checked with the legal teams and the various government contacts to see what they can get away with. You never know what the court system will do but would bet the company would continue appeals. With the way this administration is stacking the courts who feels comfortable that they would ultimately win 2-3 years from now.

Did they lose 33% or 250 workers at any single site in Illinois?

results in an employment loss at the single site of employment during any 30-day period for:

at least 33% of the employees (excluding any part-time employees) and at least 25 employees (excluding any part-time employees); or
at least 250 employees (excluding any part-time employees). [820 ILCS 65/5(d)]

it does not matter, you... don't matter

If you're poor and borrow money, that's on you. You must repay your debts. If you're rich and borrow money, that's entirely different. How else do you think rich people get rich, silly? Rich people deserve to take money from the rest of us, because they're special. It's the Republican way.
I heard the loans, are free now... lol
Mnuchin to change the loan forgiveness criteria to allow the businesses lians to be free...

lol

I would pursue this if I was let go on 14 days notice. Can’t hurt plus anytime you can stick it to the man.
