I worked at Long Beach. As soon as I heard that they were moving seats to Savannah, and had built a brand new facility in Van Nuts, I saw the writing on the wall took an opportunity to leave, and am happy I did. Then I heard about a few guys from the woodshop needed to go down to Mexicali to train people...more confirmation.
With the 550 no longer in production, and Long Beach hangars not being able to accommodate the 700, they will for sure close it down. Feel bad for the workers at LB who are grasping at hope to keep their jobs. Co vid is only accelerating things as well.
Did your reliable source happen to offer a potential timeframe that the next RIF would occur?
I’ve heard from a reliable source that there’s another round coming. We lost good people in the RIF, and a couple other great guys who saw the writing on the wall have bailed since. But the workload hasn’t changed in my department. We lost several dozen plane orders, sure, but we should be servicing the sh– out of those that haven’t cancelled. We can’t do that on our skeleton staff. This rat needs to put me and mine first.
Would this move all Completions to Savannah?
Model manager for 550 no longer needed from engineering/ LGB
The only reason to close mexicali would be due to production stopping.
It’s true. Long Beach is scheduled to close sometime around 2022-2023 when their lease is up. The city is planning on building a terminal in its place.
