Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

This is surprising

I got raise last year because I was about to leave - I had offer from another company. DXC matched the offer.

DXC actually does this? I thought they were looking for ways to get rid of us - especially the higher paid ones - never even occurred to me there are some people they'd actually try to keep. Color me shocked.

Early 2020 after I left for greener pasture I was offered an opportunity to come back at a substantially higher salary to return to DXC. And a promise that I would not be WFR'd by my L2 & L3. After having after having survived numerous WFR's I knew this was the typical DXC stalling tactic to have me train my cheaper replacements before I like the rest of my previous team would also be WFR'd. I had been at HP-HPE-DXC for 20 years but no way would I even consider going back to the toxic environment that is now DXC,and no regrets!

Actually, I got pay raise like this two times already - first time in 2017, second time last year. In both cases I had offer from another companies. I sent the offers to my manager and he initiated some process for this kind of situation. It took a few weeks to get it approved though.

I stayed because HPE/DXC matched the salary and other benefits are better here (home office, sick days, better office location (no problem with parking), etc).

It is needless to say that I have the best FPR rating each year and I'm my manager's most senior and qualified employee - every year I get some relevant certification (or two).

I'm only L4, so I should qualify for announced pay rise, but who knows. If they spit in my face, I will look around for other companies. I'm fortunate enough to live in area where opportunities are plentiful.

Your crazy to stay! That will be the last raise you will get that way and now your pay will never change

We have had problems with my account bringing on temps. Then, if they hired the temps for permanent positions they always started with higher wages (often higher than people who have been with the company for 5+ years). This was brought up to management and we were told there was nothing they could do about it. That is b—s—!

EDS wasn't that great either. Managers took care of the s—ups and got friends & relatives hired. Those of us who had the courage to speak up about issues were ostracized to some extent and got smaller pay raises, longer periods without pay raises, and fewer (if any) promotions.

  • correcting my spelling ... because wtf autocorrect lol

The same exact thing happens on our account.
Our manager brings on friends and family who are under-qualified and are getting paid more money...
I was also told by my manager that I could not get a raise unless I left. I was told to leave for six months and then come back...
I know of members on OUR team who have also been told not to apply for positions in higher levels, more specifically because our manager wanted to hire their friends for them.
I thought our team was the only one that had a shady manager. Guess not. Pretty disappointed to hear this sort of business happens across different accounts. I’m not sure where the integrity is anymore in this workplace. :(

I have heard of cases where people receive matched salary offers to stay. To me, at that point I’d find it too late. If DXC valued you, why weren’t they paying you your worth to begin with? I couldn’t see staying, if I had another offer from another company. Nor could I see returning to DXC, once gone, regardless of what they offered me. It would just be another 5 or 6 years, until the next pay raise.

I am ex-EDS too but very thankful that old Mikey WFR'd me and saved my health. So glad to be out of DXC and in the real world.

Another tid-bit also, I started with EDS back in 1985 and went thru HP, HPE, DXC and now Veritas. EDS really was a great company to work for - I wish they would have never sold out to HP.

I left DXC in October 2019 - had not had a raise in 6 years regardless of always meeting my deadlines, working extra to get in emergent projects and basically working 60-80 hours a week for same salary pay for past 6 years. Manager bringing in friends off the street at my same level position making more money, others who had 20 years less experience getting moved up . Anyway I left to work for another company contracting in state government. Was approached by a former DXC colleague that informed me of a position on another account, working remote. I was interviewed and got the position. Started back at DXC in May, with a 32% increase in salary. And to go back to my former manager that told me the only way to get a raise was to leave the company and get rehired. I really didn't have any intention of coming back, but the opportunity presented itself and I took it.

happens all the time with mobile young folk - its the only way to get a raise.

but if you're over 50, its a different story. They can't open the door quick enough (saves on WFR and you're overpaid for what you do)

A colleague of mine on my account had the same a few months back. he handed in his notice and was literally on his last day when they offered him a pretty decent payrise. Not sure if he survived this cull though.

They do this a lot. I got a matched offer, but left as a matter of principle.

If the money is there to offer a raise, it should be done without a threat of leaving the company first.

They did this to me back in January. I'm being made redundant on 29th June. They begged me to stay, raised my salary, ensured me that there would be no further redundancies. Of course, in true DXC style, they lied to me. I should have known really. Lying comes as naturally as breathing to this morally bankrupt company.

Historically at least some parts of DXC have done this, if it's someone they wanted to retain. It did require relatively high level approval to do this, in the ML days I think he had to personally approve it!

I don't know if it's still happening today, but certainly it has happened in the past.
