Greater percentage of women than ever before after these layoffs are over

Heard rumours that men are being targeted more for layoffs so that SCHLUMBERGER can show an increase in percentage of female employees from previous year

Our customers are doing the same thing. They are much more open about it though. https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKCN24P1Y7

The possibility that there will be more females is purely based upon the demographic-tenure model that SLB uses, specifically when it comes to early retirements; 60 + 10, 5+20. Those employees whose magic number comes to 70 are offered early retirements. It does not take much effort to see that very few women in SLB match that number. As long as SLB follows this model, then the end result is that there will be more women. That is fine, it is what it is. We live and work in a far from perfect system.

What’s wrong with that? Legally, there is no discrimination. Men have a leg up over women, when looking for their next job. Some of the women that SLB promoted to the top and left, have gone on to do bigger and better things - clearly, they were qualified to be promoted.
It does hurt financially - I was the sole earner in my family, a man, and got laid off. But I don’t hold this against the men or women who stayed on.

I don’t think gender is an issue the company has lots and of successful women rising up. There were some who were possibly even promoted early due to gender. Really only factor you need is “Good luck” that is all you need, favoritism does exist but if lucky, above B rated and a bosses favorite you will be okay.

I know I was A rated for nearly 20 years and as a result various bosses favorite, top person changed no longer their favorite employee and my luck ran out- I believe I am still good but no longer favorite hence no longer slb employee.

I am 35 y.o. white woman. I was laid off in April. I have two master's degrees, I was G12 and was an engineer. A lot of my ex-colleagues on visas were able to keep their jobs. I think it is more of a war expats vs locals. Locals are screwed.

Well, slb has been trying to level the playing field for almost 25 years. Middle age white man are less a priority that is true, a generation that pays for the excess of the past world history. Let’s not kid ourselves women all over the world do not have the place they deserve. However, those choices will backlash just like any positive discrimination policy. But what is the real alternative? Norms must change. Social media and connection make companies roster a poster more than ever, it is the same for governments... this is not a schlumberger issue it is a social issue. White males just like anyone else must adapt.
I trust that by pushing everyone to make it from preK to university we will end up with a more diverse Leadership, that will take 2 or 3 generations until then those growing up right now need models they can identify with. We are in a transition period...competence should always win and above all diversity of thoughts, that is what we need. Until now we have the same type of thinking people wearing different color suits. The chosen roster with the introduction videos, not only demonstrate that point but give no model for anyone to look up to except to those either easily impressed that would turn no different with time or the large numbers of “followers”. Here lays the real failure.

Absolutely 100% true. If you are a middle age white man, you stand no chance and being discriminated . been through it, seen it, lived it myself

Very true. HR and Compliance will review names on lay-off lists and push back on most females and other URN (under represented nationality) employees. To lay-off a female or URN requires greater justification.

Big bonus KPOs are tied to diversity metrics

If true it would not be fair to women. Having the opportunity to stick around in a non-performing company with no forward vision, no revenue diversification, stuck in a dying polluting industry, no technological base for any hope of improvement and a clueless top heavy reckless management organisation, is not really something to look forward to. If you have skills, just get out and get appreciated in a more rewarding environment.
