Being laid off is never fun or an easy pill to swallow. It’s especially difficult considering the current employment conditions most people will be returning to in their home countries. Not counting the additional stress of uprooting the entire family and all that involves.

That being said, the company doesn’t owe anyone a lifetime of employment, no company does. A little refresher for those who seem to need it: Firing practices in other countries - in the U.S. at least - are far more brutal and generally devoid of any severance packages, much less ones as generous as the ones the company is currently offering. You came to SA, you enjoyed the numerous benefits the company offered you, and now it is time to head back home.

For those who are viciously biting the hand which has fed you so well over the years, the company made the right decision in severing your employment. Your behavior is disgusting. The micro aggressions of working with people who harbor such disgust and malice towards their local colleagues leads to a toxic work culture. It’s an open secret that people harbor these thoughts and I have seen it affect their performance and attitudes. But to see it displayed so brazenly and shamelessly is simply shocking. Thanks to the generous employment practices which afforded you a dream lifestyle, you seem to have been deluded in to over-inflating your sense of self worth and the value you bring as employees. You are about to receive the shock of a lifetime when you rejoin the U.S. workforce and rediscover just how dispensable every employee there is.

For those of you who see this as simple business, I’m truly sorry this happened to you. I wish you well in your future endeavors. I hope you find suitable reemployment, and settle well in to your new homes and communities. It was a pleasure working with you and you will be sorely missed.

Let’s not get into Saudis vs Expats as that has nothing to do with downsizing. Saudi labour law protects them, so they will be offered a golden handshake package soon. Expats being offered ELP (employee lay-off package) which is slightly better than contractual separation clause. So there should not be any complain.

I came in when oil was $100 at with an astronomical salary. I’m laid off this week, because For them I’m unaffordable now. Fair deal, isn’t it?

I am a victim of the bloodbath. Double digit years of service and disrespectfully cast aside in less than five minutes in what was called “corporate optimization”. Contrary to what was said, this is about compensation and appears to be directed at Americans and Canadians. It is also about integrating SABIC and all those Saudis. This is going to continue for weeks and will conclude with hundreds of Saudis cut too.

I am a Saudi citizen Aramco employee and have been working for the company for more than 13 years. I worked with a lot of great Saudis and expats. In my organisation, and in general, expats have indeed higher productivity than Saudis but there are still a lot of them who don’t deserve a fraction of what they get in payments and benefits. There are a lot of Saudis who should be fired too. One of the reasons we have a lot of lousy employees is because of job security. I believe the company has spoiled everyone. So sad to see some of my colleagues being laid off but this is the case now everywhere in the industry. Still, and despite the stupid complaints, Aramco pays the expats generously and try its best to keep them as long as possible. It is so sad to see some of our former colleagues over hear swearing about the company and my lovely country. I wouldn’t do that if I had worked somewhere else in this beautiful planet. Arrive safely home and I will pray that all of you get much better opportunities. Thank for your service.

I worked my a– off at a remote area but never got beyond M performance rating. The manager said you 'met the expectations' that's why the M. You will get E when you exceed the expectations. Never were a meeting to discuss the performance, you will have to login to see what it was. The Saudi managers don't have courage to talk to you in person but will say bad things about you in your absence. I grew half of my grey hair while at Aramco but was laid off a few years ago. What a s***hole.

We should downsize all the Saudis who don't produce any work. Make them give up their GOSI, Aramco Loans and all other benefits which expats do not get.

99% of Saudis in this company are couch surfing and don't produce any real work, the 1% hard working Saudis pack up and move to other companies or leave the magic kingdom.

Its true, the people who built this company are expats, name 1 things a Saudi has done for this company besides power point presentations.
