Nobody wants to believe they or their friends are dead weight. And I'm sure a number of good employees got caught up in the sweep, too. But the reality is that subpar performance was a primary criterion for letting people go.
Layoffs sometimes are a necessity and Saudi Aramco has been a great employer that sometimes we forget that it might go through rough times and downsizing becomes inevitable. The portion of the layoffs is much less than the majority of the companies. Saudi Aramco has been more than fair in terms of benefits for all employees and especially expats. I am sure that ex-Aramco employees will have no issues to land great jobs somewhere else. I wish everyone the best and my company & country prosperity and success.
The layoff is a must to recover from low oil prices and it is good that the number is not high compared to Aramco’s headcount. The layoff now in U.S. in the private sector is around 6% and in March it was 7.9%. No one wishes this for their worst enemy but we are going through tough times and companies have to optimize as they see fit
541 signed off on and around another 300 to 500 to go. Removal companies have limitations.

Layoffs are never pleasant, especially in the midst of a pandemic. But they're going on everywhere in the world, not just in KSA. And you can't find any company in the world that will lay you off on better terms than Saudi Aramco.
If your an expat working for aramco and expecting to be there for next 5 or 10 years id say chances are slim to none, with a highly educated and young Saudi population eager to work the days of cradle to grave aramco expat jobs is well and truely over. Coronavirus has just spurred on the inevitable!
All problems we have in Aramco it is because of bad managemrnt especially MBS he is the one behind all this mess. He misused the country savings and destroyed everything. He stole from the treasuray billions. He is more than criminal.
There are many reasons for the lay off going around...I think the way it is being done, during the pandemic is very harsh..people are stuck here, have not seen their families for months, and have been loyal to the company for many years. To be told to leave in such a manner...At least corporate communications should have gone out and outlined the reasons for lay-off. That would be professional and would have been understandable..Even people were laid off while being OOK
Sack the cowards who sit at home doing webinars instead of coming in and working.
I would agree some of them were dead weight but a lot of them were very hardworking good employees. So painting them with the same brush is definitely harsh and rude. A lot of them showed up in office during this deadly pandemic when a majority of you know who disappeared on one lame excuse or the other. Many I know survived the radium fire fiasco but still gave their 110%. May God help them settle down soon in their future jobs in these difficult time’s. Amen.
In my Business Line it was absolutely not only dead weight. Some of the M and E gradings that for canned were done for political reasons but work hard. Mainly seems to be Americans with a few global too - maybe a sign of the cost difference.

I disagree, many of the people who got "Released," were good employees. Sure some were "Dead Weight." but many were good contributing hard working people who bought into the "Aramco Life." brought their family's here. Further, many worked through COVID-19 (When many would not show their face,) and got canned for political reasons. I think your blanket characterization of them does them an injustice. I would be proud to work with many of them in any company.
Finally, a good cause to get rid off leeches ...
I don't think this should be cause for panic. Almost all of the people who were laid off were dead weight. In any "normal" company, they would've all been gone years ago.

If people are required to leave by June 30, is there any news how people would manage since International flights are still grounded?

Definitely happening in batches. In my Department they let go anyone with an M in the last three years. Letters handed out today. To leave the Kingdom by June 30. Various grades and length of service - common factor the M.

If you are working from home and receive a meeting request in the office then that’s probably it.
Instructions came from the top. `Shaving off a % of expat workforce. Performance is not the main driver. Just difficult times for the company and the country. Mainly laying off high grade code (15, 16, 17) and expensive expats especially the ones who have been around for a long time and their salaries kept going up with the time and yearly merit increases. Also the ones with large families - too expensive to keep. 500 today would not surprise me but i am not sure about the numbers.
