Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

T-Mobile/Sprint layoffs this week too. They aren't trying to bypass the WARN act, unlike our "Leaders"

"The employees who were laid off Monday will keep their jobs for another two months until August 13, said Kirby. A person on the call told TechCrunch that the severance packages amount to two weeks pay for every year on the job, but some employees may get more.

Employers are required to give two months notice in advance of mass layoffs under the WARN Act."

Besides the exemptions, it's 60 days notice OR compensation so they can walk you out the door the same day they give you notice as long as they pay you for the next 2 months - hence severance.

Part of the WARN Act was also a certain number of employees (50 or more) being laid off at one location. So that covers factories and large office buildings and such, but not smaller instances such as garages, stores, CO's, etc., or in my and many other cases last March as a full-time telecommuter in remoter areas (not part of the "Home Territory")...So the company doesn't really have to report less than 50 workers in one location...

For the SE they are technically giving 6 months notice. They named titles & exchanges, and if no offer takers go, then it's off payroll Dec 31

3 exemptions to WARN Act:

1 - “Unforeseeable business circumstances: When the closing or mass layoff is caused by business circumstances that were not reasonably foreseeable at the time that the 60-day notice would have been required (i.e., a business circumstance caused by some sudden, dramatic, and unexpected action or condition beyond the employer's control, such as unexpected cancellation of a major contract)”

3 - Natural disaster

They did give two months notice in advance of the layoffs. Just not once specific individuals are notified.
