Why are they hiring in Columbia if there are layoffs and furloughs? Is it to good to be true? Are they hiring people just to fire them?

Honestly I think it’s a scam to drive up the stock price. Unfortunately if you read all these reviews from stock analysts, they believe most of the lies the company publishes. For example, our customer satisfaction metrics show we’re performing at record highs. They help market the company as a good stock investment. It’s probably part of a lie stating something along the lines “we are seeing record growth, any layoffs are due to greater efficiencies and a shift in geographic demand. Look at all the new jobs we have as a result of this record growth.”
Will not be the first time
I wondered the same thing about why they would hire a dozen conductors on the Washington District. None of them have been to school yet, ohviously but we have guys furloughed here. Unless they know something we don't, then yes, hiring to fire them. Word is they'd be furloughed straight out of training.
Yes
