I wish ACN’s senior leadership did a better job at communicating internally on such issues and not just externally on news channels etc.
Here are things to consider going forward:
- Be honest and transparent to employees on which groups have been impacted so there is less anxiety. Human Capital is your biggest asset. If there are not enough smart people there will be no work thus no revenue.
- Current severance given in COVID-19 times is below the norm. Learn and adopt from companies like AirBnb. Be the leader and set examples rather than otherwise.
- TRULY help the employees that were let go to help them find jobs. They’ll be your advocate for the future which in turn will help with brand. This will also help in future hiring and retention. Right now, it’s going the other way around. Take action quickly.
- Current system (Algos if true+ human review) of laying off is simply flawed. Someone with lower rating last year.. you ask them to make improvement which they’re working towards, demonstrating it and before the fiscal year ends, you lay them off. Why ask them to make these improvements if there were intentions to let them go? Rather give them a few weeks to search for jobs. This will help with brand building and retention.
