Thread regarding Bose layoffs

Everybody should be looking for a way out

The company is a sinking ship people. Everyone should be prepping resumes and getting tf out ASAP. Lots of lifers that have a hard time seeing the writing on a wall. It’s been sinking for years and is NOT going to turnaround. Even if you are one of the “lucky” ones this go around, there is no reason to stay.

Perfectly stated, @gte+15ppEOta.

I once walked into a demo that I was going to give and noticed that ALL the leadership was white men in their 50s. That's not healthy for innovation. Diverse companies with diverse leaders are more innovative.

SA-5 ECO 2? It was sc-apped near end of 2019. So it will never happen.
SA-5 is more than 5 years old, end of life without replacement.
Customers are replacing SA-5 with Sonos amplifiers, so Bose already gave up and lost the market.

Microsoft, Apple and other companies are all making headphones to work with their eco system.
They are stronger in software than Bose. Maybe Bose can sell itself to one of those companies?
That will probably happen either, but who knows?

There are tech companies that are winning and making great strides. Apple is rumored to introduce a banded/wireless headphone. Dropping AR and not having a solid software program (IE what are we doing?) to make the products special really disappoints me. I wish Bose would embrace its legacy, make high end stereo/home products. Some products that really are lacking but would be great is a SA-5 ECO 2 that is not made of plastic so those whole home customers can do it. Revamp the outdoor speakers and make sure builders/custom home buyers are aware Bose is a player in the 791/591 game. We make some awesome products in those fields with great margin I imagine!

At least in the past 5 years, there is at least one mass layoff at Bose every year. 2020 is no exception.

Tell old guys to quit (early retirement) (2015)
CED leadership change, some senior managers let go
CEO changed
Customer service offshored to Philippines
Bose Ride Sold
Bose build shut down
Bose Malaysia factory sold
2019 a few hundreds people gone, work outsourced to CM.
CED leadership changed again.
Retail stores closed
CEO fired

The list goes on and on.....
The COVID will not go away soon, it is rising in many states. It is very challenging for job seekers now and in future. So it is difficult to simply quit and look elsewhere.

I agree, knowing the product line up and knowing how late we are to the market. Coupled with the poor performance of last year, covid and products that are going to be very average to mediocre (Cough tibbers) none of these will do well. But at least we can say we really wanted to the HP700 to fail since we refuse to drop the 35s!
