Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

Unemployment

Gulfstream reported to UI that severance payment money had been received even when severance had not been accepted yet. If you only received the first 3 weeks of benefits and can no longer certify that may be why.

It’s very case but case you have to keep trying and talk to someone there to fix it.

The UI claim asked if company severance was offered, the amount, and a date of when expected to be paid. How does the DOL handle this and will they give us some sort of notification? It’s all so unclear. Ditto on the paid for three weeks and nothing since status to UI.

Hopefully we will all find employment soon and not have to deal with all of this.

They fired you and blamed it on a pandemic and you’re worried about a non compete? Bless your heart. I’d say bring it on! Just ask for a jury trial if they sue you. No jury will side with the big bad company against the laid off little guy.

Ditto. RIFed last fall. Took the severance. Took a job with a competitor. No fall out. There is a good life after GAC. Good luck.

To the guy worried about signing the severance with a non-compete clause. If you signed an non compete at your employment with GAC, you’d remember and they’d have given you a copy. You probably didn’t sign one, depending on where you were hired in. Don’t ask me how I know this, but I know. GAC is not going to sue you to prevent you from feeding your kids, even if it means taking GAC knowledge to a competitor. They fired you. Take the job with the competitor. Take the cash from GAC too and buy a nice boat. All’s well that ends well except for those of us left here waiting for the next shoe to drop. Save us some of those jobs!

Hello. I am not sure how this site works. Can you reply to me please? Where did you get this information? I had a lawyer read my severance agreement. He said there were some things I was agreeing to if I sign it that I need to fully understand, such as a "non-competition" provision that I may or may not have signed when I was first hired. I have been trying to get clarification on this from HR, as my job search has included competitors of Gulfstream. I don't want to accept the severance if this means I cannot take another job at a competitor. I need to be able to support my family. No one in HR is answering my emails. Can someone who understands this email me at ____?
