Sounds like we were both let go by the same manager! (lol) I can only sympathize with those former, fellow employees that are feeling pretty much the same way I am. I only worked for them because I needed a job at that particular time (plus the last downturn in 2015 didn't give me much of a choice either). I am not going to go into any stats, figures, and or economic jargon with this post. Just going to mention the human element of my experience with SLB.
I gotta admit, I was pretty naive as to walking into such a close-knit, toxic workplace environment when I first started. All in all, it wasn't a positive experience in that respect; I just tried to mind my own business and do my job, while navigating the treacherous waters. I interacted with ALL kinds of personalities and social extremes, which is the reason as to why I tended to keep to myself as much as possible. Learned along the way about the "Buddy System" and cliques in the shop, (yeah, just like in high school). I thought that I wouldn't encounter anything even remote that this day in age, as rampant and status quo. I was a pretty easy target because that riff-raff knew that I was my own person and didn't go along with the rumor mill. They tirelessly tried to get whatever gossip or other petty, useless tidbits of information I may have heard, but I would always clam up. This drove them crazy to no end.
I knew that my days were numbered, long before I was to be let go, but the only thing that kept me there was the pay. In hindsight, I would've left, wait, better yet....have not bothered with that company at all, to begin with. Wish those that can relate to my post, all I can say is lots of luck with the ongoing job search and if you have already found something, just be sure to learn from your experience from this "world class" company.
