Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

I won't be fooled again

Loved my job, had hoped to build a career at GAC, got RIF'd.

As it stands, I'd go back given the opportunity. But I'd do so with my eyes open, and with the intent to get what I can for myself and my own development out of the company ASAP, with an eye toward making myself more desirable elsewhere.

And when the right opportunity came along, I'd take it.

GAC has shown it won't hesitate to base their conduct with their employees as "just business", so I've no problem considering that a two way street.

I feel like a bit of a fool - having watched my father give decades of his life to a company, only to be canned when he neared retirement and became 'too old and expensive' - and yet somehow thinking GAC wasn't that kind of operation.

I won't be fooled again.

Laid off in a previous round and felt the same way. Little part of me kept hoping that the years of hard work would be appreciated and they'd change their mind. Never happened. I came out of the military and missed the code of honor, loyalty and comradery that never existed at GAC. Everyone walked around with the axe over their head after the prior cuts. Landed in a place where there is more of that esprit de corps. Hope you find a good spot too, but I know it is going to be harder in this market compared to last fall. With you in spirit man.
