Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

How will it happen?

When Dell is forced to reduce the workforce, how do you think it'll happen? Will they give notice and do it in stages? I'm nervous that they are going to announce it during the quarterly on Thursday. Can those of you who have worked for the company for a long time share how it's been handled in the past? Any insight into what severance packages will look like?

All the info in these replies is correct (I've been laid off and prior to that, I laid people off myself). Dell is masterful at doing this. The package is standard and is on the intranet for everyone to see if they can locate it. Also - when Dell is planning layoffs, they do a smaller number every month over time so that they do not ever have to announce that a big layoff all at once. They always deny they are doing layoffs, because they do it a few at a time. Even inside the company you may not hear about those that are happening. The fact is – senior team has major changes planned for Q3 with a transformation of the company structure. Those changes started when all the sales orgs were combined under Scannell at first of year........and they have slowly continued. There have been layoffs every month since then and they will continue. A lot of senior people have and will go too.

When I was yeeted in 2018 it was during a one on one with my manager - rescheduled and with hr present. Package was two months plus one week per year plus two months insurance. My org tended to get hit by trickle layoffs - a few here, a few there.

I’d imagine everyone being remote has changed it a little.

Is payment for unused vacation time part of the package?

Insofar as being told, it is a call with an HR person and your manager. Your manager suddenly schedules or reschedules a meeting say you normal one on one. Thinking your calling into your normal meeting you hear another voice. Then suddenly your manager runs thru a script telling you you're being let go. This happened each way with everyone on my team including me. Watch out for your manager, or any manager at Dell for that matter. They are two faced and will stab you in the back no sooner than look at you. And yeah, more layoffs are coming.

The severance package is 2 weeks for each year, and 2 months of health benefits, and of course you qualify for unemployment.

Can anyone share what Dell's severance packages are, especially for Newbies with 2 years or less of service?

Dell reported earning last week , the numbers were good and stock went up , so there is less incentive for lay offs.
The only problem is what are the projections going forward , will they get ahead of that and announce layoffs , that remains to be seen. Will they use this crisis to clean house and emerge stronger ?

My layoff was on a Monday, although they wanted to do it on Friday. I got "tipped" off I was being cut so I started burning my vacation while looking for a job. After hard work and numerous interviews, I found another job and was planning to submit my resignation on Monday anyway. Instead, I waited since I got word the layoffs happened on Friday. Good thing I did not resign. I ended up getting a nice severance and another week of vacation.
Word of advice, keep close to your manager and watch their actions toward you and other team members. Dell is a cut throat place. People who stab others in the back thrive. Good luck!

Annual shareholder meeting is June 29th, so it has the potential to be earlier. Notice of layoffs could feasibly happen June 3rd, with people wrapping up by the 26th.
