17 Years of Service - “Poof..Gone!”

So, what seemed impossible is now a reality ... after 17 years of hard work, sweat and tears and long nights that saved and generated millions upon millions for the organization - my spouse, her boss, and their entire department were informed that their last day is a month away. My spouse is losing her career at Schlumberger - unbelievable! They didn’t offer any alternative positions for anyone and are letting many very talented employees go. It just goes to show that loyalty and being a top performer is not rewarded everywhere. Six months severance equates to less than one week for every year of service! “Wow!!” Good job Schlumberger?!

The amount of comments on here saying ‘years of loyal service...hard work...extra hours...good SLP3s etc etc blah blah blah and then being surprised u get the boot. Truly been schlumbergised.
Everybody is irrelevant when it comes to cost cutting, when will people learn this.

@zku+15ckjMLy I also received no notice. I was given an hour after the surprise meeting to finish up and to stop working immediately.

They let me know I was laid off due to the pandemic, as with most people that have gotten laid off during this time, but no notice beforehand. They told me it was random for my department, and based on who I know got laid off, it seemed that the statement "no one is safe" rings true.

Be lucky. Some locations did not follow the SLB handbook and gave employees whatever. When the downturn first started at the end of 2014, there were reports of employees in one of the Norway locations, they got 2 extra paychecks, vacation pay out and that's it. Obviously a no brainer to get a lawyer involved since it is in writing and published. What's worse, when people were pushing back on their severance, the company would change it's position and state it was not a lay off but a unquote "performance related issue" which meant those people were screwed.

2 weeks/year for exempt employees. Capped at 26 weeks...read your US employee handbooks.

This is no secret

Uh. No. 17 years of service at 1 week per year would be 17 weeks of severance, or 4 months and 1 week. 6 months of severance would correspond to 24 years of service.

Lemme guess. Your wife is in "communications" or "HR", right?
