Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Pays well but not worth it

We just had another tech quit due to stress, numbers and the plan. This guy worked inside in a call center and BEGGED for a job outside. All he could see was the money. We tried to talk him down but he didn't believe it. It can't be that bad, I would love to be outside.

They hire him. You could just see the excitement drain right out of him while training. He was smart and could do the work though, unlike others. He lasted exactly three months as a CST. All of a sudden, he admits, everything I heard was true and worse.

Couldn't take the pressure of dealing with angry customers, and the system. He thought we were joking everyone hated us. He thought we were kidding about the numbers and the plan.

He tried to go back inside. He couldn't. Just flat quit. His last words out the door were, It Just isn't worth the money they pay. There is no way I could do what you guys do, I don't see how you do it.

Another victim. Sad he didn't stay put and had to learn the hard way.

quote—"Well the job postings have titles I have never seen now in either Legacy Qwest, CenturyLink, or US West, Management or Labor."—end quote

This is a work around for union represented jobs they change or eliminate the jobs your currently in —then they tell you they have eliminated that position sorry? you can apply for another position if there are any open in this area? you may have to take an i&R slot in podunk idaho?—you see they can do this and let you go—

Oh i know all the union boys will be here calling bulls%%t But just you wait and see—they also mysteriously eliminated ALL contractors in my old area leaving 5 men to handle the load that used to be 40 then 30 then 20 then 11 now 5 —they were using contractors to make the numbers and make it look good—now they are calling for 6-8 tickets a day in the area because numbers arent there—they only let contractors go in an area when they plan on "Culling" the area—

As well one stalwart SRO has decided to take the package and go—this individual was hard core Legacy CTL—who told us in a meeting a little over a year ago that if he left we should consider it as well and hes going—SROS are feeling the pinchers and getting uncomfortable—They know more than they can tell you as usual—

The fat lady has walked out onto the stage—she will soon be singing Good Luck —Take the out youll never look back—

Congrats on working in the heat. Try working in heat in the summer and snow in the winter; for people who all hate you. Try fixing cable you know can't be fixed, but your told to anyway. Try installing 10mb dsl places you know it won't run. Then tell the customer they're only getting 5mb. Get sent back 2 or 3 times by the SRO to waste your time. Show up weeks after the trouble ticket was put in. Install GPON fiber months after the customer wanted it. Spend days doing UPS to make the govt happy. Do all this while being told it's not enough, it's all your fault,.and oh yeah, your numbers aren't good so your going on the plan. Oh yeah, and maybe you are getting laid off soon, but we don't know yet. And my all time favorite from every customer you see....what happened to you guys when Level 3 took over, you used to be a good company but now you s—!

No young guy (even old) in their right mind wants to deal with p-ss-d customers all day, while trying to game the system while being setup for failure.

A net tech has always been a net tech or a broadband tech. Not a customer service tech. Not in Legacy Qwest, Centurylink or US West. It’s not the same job, hence different job title. Someone’s full of it.
