Just keep in mind, if you are collecting unemployment and get hired along with a new job all in the same fiscal year, guess what, you have to pay taxes on all the unemployment you collected. I got BURNED on this in 2018. Never had to pay any substantial tax return in all my years except the year I got laid off from SLB in 2018. Make sure when you are filling out the tax paperwork on your W4 and W2 for your new job, take out a little extra on your withholding. Scary part is I did this and though it was enough.

All about your age. No one wants to hire old people. Old folks are targets. Over 50 and the target is on your back.

From applying to new job-four days. Most likely depends on where you live and your job “coversion” from the oilfield. Prib can find work pretty fast same with degree or technical training background. Sort of like getting out of the armed forces. Others may have harder markets to enter. Just depends.

I was in geoscience department, got laid off in 2016. It took me 18 months to get a job. Got laid off again. This is your age and when you have 20+ years experience, you become a target no matter how good you are at what you do. If you are a front line employee or an individual contributor you are not protected. In order to be protected in corporate America you need to have that knife and firing authority in your hand during the down turn. I hope things pick up soon and if it does in a sustainable way, the younger folks will be taken back before they consider amy older experienced workers unless oil price shoots up at $100!!

Resigned after 16+ years of service at SLB, because I just could not stand it anymore. Most colleagues at that time could not understand my decision. I left an area segment management position and my last day was 16th Nov 2015. Moved back from Dubai to my European home country and started my new job at a smaller company there on 14th Dec 2015. Still working in this company. It was a big change for me, not only becuae of salary, no question. Glad to had the opportunity to learn and grow at SLB ..... but glad and happier where I am now.
