Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

In The CWA's Eyes A Prem Tech Equals One Tenth Of A Core Technician

Core technicians are being offered a $50,000 severance package. Not too bad. Prems and Wires, on the other hand, get a tiny $5,000. What a smack in the face.

After all the years of working our butts off for this company we get insulted like this! Twelve years of slaving away for this company and the CWA did absolutely nothing to improve Prem Tech compensation and working conditions. They never even tried. And now at the end of our sh1tty AT&T careers, we get kicked out the door with this insulting tiny severance.

Every Prem and Wire Tech should get their cumulative dues back with interest from the CWA in return for the CWA doing nothing for them all this time.

Newsflash to all the "premtechs are temp workers" commentators - EVERY American worker at AT&T is a temporary worker now.

Every one of us is marked for replacement as soon as our jobs can either be sent to India or discontinued completely. This place is about as permanent as working at McDonald's now.

Prem Tech WAS/IS a temporary position ... you really think you will get 25 to 30 years work and retirement out of uverse video or internet work?

Look at Peoria Illinois. No VRADS only IRADS ... I&R does it all. Should have been that way everywhere from the start, but that is the Union's fault.

You guys take what we say as if we hate you or something, when it could not be further from the truth. A lot of us in construction, central office, I&R etc ... started by doing installs, but in I&R ... you all have been deluded into thinking you have a 30 year I&R gig and somehow you won't just get kicked to the curb. The reality is they created your group just to abuse people running them in the ground to ramp up a product quickly, that now they don't even know if they want.

We told the prem techs to push back against management but they would never do it . We told them they dont have to be treated like they were , just stand up and be a man !!! But knowwwww !!!! They glued themselves to their supervisor's behind , calling them all freaking day and asking them if its ok to do this and that , never showing an ounce of backbone . Now they want to whine ! Its to late !!!

“You have a very creative memory @1csv. The union NEVER agreed for non core technicians to work on the F2. That would have jeopardized core security.

The agreement was for non core to hang their own aerial drops and perform LIMITED testing on the line. Any trouble found was to be kicked to Installation 'n Repair, work that the union fought very hard to keep for core technicians.

Non core contract technicians are strictly forbidden, per the CWA, from working on the F2.“

That’s cause he’s likely a manager and knows sheet.

Most splicers don’t complain about work given to them.

And find your own pairs when you can binding post terminal or not. Helper waits have increased and so has bulk loads.

Quit the union. Exercise your right for return of non chargeable fees. It is about 30% of your annual dues. You must claim that right in the month of May each year with CWA national. Beck v. CWA was the court case.

@1rxy+15Zt4MMz, and especially union steward @1isq+15Zt4MMz
I am hoping you are still here for the next contract so you can volunteer for the bargaining committee.
We need leadership like yours in order to right the wrongs. I believe you to be truthful and factual. Not like some others that don't know what they are talking about because they were never engaged in the solution. 1isq knows because he is a steward and I'm sure he is a force in his local spending his time representing all members, probably on the executive board, volunteering for community and asking " what can I do?"
I see a bright future with leaders like you.

So you worked 12 years in a bottom rung job. Why didn't you advance? I love it when people blame someone else for their own failures. It's the company laying you off. It is the company that set the payout. Do you think it was negotiated? You really are clueless. Good luck with your future.

Whatever made Prem / Wire techs think they were permanent? Maybe a few will be, but for the most part everyone and their brother knew this was temporary and nothing to plan a family around.

12 years and you're getting $5K?
And you're complaining?
That's better than I'd have gotten after a measly 12 yrs back in 1993.

Guess what DTV - the CWA doesn't care about you either. They only care about their good 'ole boys club.

The union does not care about the wire tech position! It was just a temp position! But what about the Directv guys that got put into that position? They worked for Directv with a future in mind! Not as good as the core position but a whole lot safer than the wiretech position! They were never in the red and there was never any layoffs, and or working quarter to quarter waiting till it was your time to go. It was a place to just go to work, do your job and get paid, T has ruined Directv and not just the service but the employee morale of what is left of the Directv techs!

@1rxy.. amen...the U shouldn't have "taken in" WT/PT. They should've set back & let the contractor fiasco self destruct & then hire more regular employees as needed. To me, It was wrong for the U to bring WT/PT as members to do work that should've been done by current members (WS 30 Service Tech (Southeast job title) ). Kind seemed like the U was playing both sides.

If prem tech’s actually did something besides kick jobs back to repair. Remember when prem techs got a 3 plus dollar an hour raise years ago, cause they were going to handle F2 pairs from box to customer. I do. They don’t even know what a cable pair looks like.

If you made the cut, you can still get out of the Union the week before the contract date. Just a FYI

Prem/wire tech was supposed to be a contractor position when it was first made. Union jumped in and said no contractors. They agreed to everything for this title just to get more dues paying members out of it. From day 1 they sh– the bed with this title and never gave a sh– about it. Coming back and telling us we are the future of the company was all smoke and mirrors. Now we're paying the price for these screwed up negotiations.

Randall and Stinkey are social justice superheroes now! They're donning their capes and flying from town to town to get the word out about defunding the police (who happen to pay for Firstnet) and justice for black people. After all, Stankey sending non stop virtue emails and Randall running his big mouth non stop doesn't cost any money.

Giving their employees a fair severance package, well that's a little more complicated.
