Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Fresh layoffs in August

More layoffs continue in august after recent departs because of IBM. Entire team I am working was laid off nearly 30 resources and they have extended contract with cognizant for next 2 years. It’s like replacing client with vendor just they did with IBM. Most horrible thing is the way they announcing this news, my team have Many members with 40 years of association with Anthem but the way they treated during this announcement is really not good and not ethical for any company and wonder how customers can trust such company for insurance of their health and life.

I don't think the budget would be a problem if they hadn't bungled the merger with Cigna, and then paid LOTS of $ to Deloitte for modernization (noting modern about it and never fully tested, so lots of defects - for the white-glove groups).

This is atrocious, losing jobs for American citizens in this bad job market. Anthem continues to retain H1/H4-EAD/OPT foreign workers/contractors and associated but getting rid of US Citizens workers!

A very easy fix to their money problems is to get rid of Gail and her exorbitant salary, bonus payouts, and perks as well as her cronies. And is the former overpaid CEO still on payroll as “consultant” along with an assistant? There is so much money wasted on ridiculous salaries of people who have down nothing but run this company to the ground

I’m so sorry to hear about the continued layoffs. Anthem is encountering money problems. According to Yahoo Finance, Anthem has $27b in liabilities due within 12 months and another $23.7b due beyond 12 months. Offsetting this, Anthem has $25.8b in cash and $11.2b in receivables that were due in 12 months. Anthem is looking at its liabilities being $13.8b more than its combo of cash and short-term receivables.

Labor is any company’s biggest expense and if Anthem can flip that from a variable cost to a cheaper fix cost, it will continue the layoffs. Now is the time to dust off the resume and pivot away from Anthem. We owe no loyalty to Anthem or any company.
