Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Any stores closing for good?

I have a feeling my store might be. I heard from a manager at Burlington that their corp was told a store in our plaza wont be renewing their lease this year so Burlington would be moving to it. We are the only store large enough for Burlington.

Honestly all of these people telling you to get out are a little extreme. Sure, look around for another job and if you find one then take it but collect the unemployment while you can and wait for them to lay you off so you can keep collecting until you find something better. If you just quit with no plan you'll be left with nothing.

Not sure what kind of “job” you’re giving them... but only part timers & Mgrs returned to my store too.

If you went back and were full time you kept your insurance. You really don't know because you are a bitter lay off crank.”

NO I AM NOT

I currently work in a store. And, none of the full timers ( other than management ) returned. Just part timers, like I said.
Enjoy your looking down on others . Hopefully someday you’ll be a Bitter laid off crank. Your compassion for your ex co workers says volumes about your character.

"You were asked back because you’re part time and not getting health insurance."

NO, I WAS NOT .

I was asked back during furlough to help out and got paid and still have my insurance. My hours are increasing and our store is asking more emplyees back as the weeks go on.

ANYBODY can do the job. BN doesn’t want skilled people . Just those they can hire cheap.
You were asked back because you’re part time and not getting health insurance.

This folks, is an example of total BS...so what flavor was the corporate kool aid they gave you?

"B&N is back and better than ever.Fantastic sales at stores since reopening."

Honey, no one is making sales in ANY retail bricks and mortar store. Is that you James Daunt? Stop trolling the Layoff and writing this total fiction for these poor booksellers.

Yeah, get out and get another job that will do the exact same thing.

This is retail in 2020, folks.

Stop thinking it's 1986 & you will be coddled and adored, just for being an
avid reader.

You can go to Target or Amazon or Kohls or Walmart, and it's not going to be
different.

Join us in 2020, post pandemic retail.

I’ve worked in NC & KY.
I’ve met booksellers from all over.
ALL have the same stories. Corp & Mgrs lying to them. Treat employees poorly.
I know it used to be a prestigious job, at one point, even a career. They don’t want that. They want low paid, no insurance provided, part timers to just put books on shelf & money in the till. You can do that anywhere. And be treated a whole lot better.

I work at BBB and this sounds exciting like like them. You should take a look at the BBB forum. Its pretty active. All these companies treat their employees like c-ap. Got to get out before the boat sinks.

I made the mistake of working at BN twice. They do not care one iota about the employee. They are horribly fake people with fake smiles for the entire shift. Just quit now and look for a new job, anything is better than working for BN. Let them crumble like they so deserve. Down with BN.

It’s the typical BN way, everyone else will know about it before you do.
Start looking now. Don’t wait for them to furlough/lay-off ( whatever sounds better to THEM) you !
