Defamation of character comes to mind when a corporation’s CEO says that it has no plan for a lay off and then the only official statement from the corporation is that they have a rigorous performance evaluation process to explain the release of a large group! Thier response to a Bloomberg article about lay offs was that it was simply performance based.
So, publicly you were not laid off, but let go because of performance issues.
How is anyone supposed to find a meaningful job now in this time frame when the very same corporation declared anyone who left or were forced to leave (resign) in that time frame were due to performance issues?
From CEO announcement and PIP is less then 2 months.
If that isn’t the most passive aggressive behavior I don’t know what is!

Not defamation of character. Supervisors are trained NOT to respond to inquires on reasons for people leaving their job. They can only confirm employment. This is why it is better to leave voluntarily when you get a needs improvement message. Better to leave on your own timeline vs during a mass exodus, and future employers may assume you were poorly ranked and forced out
Under US law, is letting people go after performance assessments legally called a layoff? I doubt the # employees exxon is letting go in `20, '21,' 22 would legally be called a "mass layoff" instead, this is just letting the lowest contributors go find new employment.
Hopefully everyone who is laid off this go around will finds new employment quickly.
For those of us who do make it through, we will know the true colors of the company and if we don’t leave as soon as there is other opportunity shame on us. If we Stick around after the next boom we desire to be laid off during the next bust.
I am gone as soon as I can secure other employment. Screw this pension I will never be able to get it anyways as we all know what happens when you are getting close.

It is very dirty how they’re handling this. We all understand that a publicized lay-off hurts the stock price and investor confidence. In other news, anyone notice that P & A offshore in Australia? No integrity at all!
