Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No company has ever slashed its way to prosperity - massive lay-offs are just a CNN sign at the end of the road.

It’s just a statement that “okay shareholders, we don’t have anything worth investing your money in so we might as well cut costs in the short term and neuter the organization”.

rural folks move out to rural areas for a reason. they want privacy and don't want to be spied on because they have tons of outdoor and other worthwhile activities besides getting harmful 5g.

Grew up in a rural area and most of the younger folks moving away. Unless the costs go down don’t see anyone running the fiber needed to provide real 5G to those areas to possibly get 50 customers. Grandparents aren’t gamers and doubt the Quick Mart has much use for it.

"Now, rural subscribers can never expect to see 5G; that will be limited to high-profit areas."

I doubt that... A technology that can eliminate much of the most trouble-prone physical plant is a high profit service in a rural area.

while indeed no company has ever slashed its way to prosperity, Ratty and Stinky HAVE slashed their way to enrich themselves extremely well!

Ratty needs to go!
Stinky needs to go!
Zucher needs to go!
The Board of Misdirectors needs to go!

The question people should be asking is who hired all these employees that are no longer needed and why? Those who made these decisions are the ones who should be getting impacted and getting the axe.

Telephony was built out on the backs of the ratepayers, and included subsidies for low-income and rural subscribers that allowed a 5% profit over whatever was spent. Customer satisfaction was regulated by the States.

Now, rural subscribers can never expect to see 5G; that will be limited to high-profit areas. Customer service is "regulated" by lowest-cost, barely-English-speaking foreigners, who conveniently claim to have no supervisor to escalate to.

The system no longer needs to work right. Management will gut the company and, Elliot-style, sell the parts off to companies who care. The parts are worth more than the whole that will remain, due to the original build-out's right of ways and spectrum licenses.

Note that people won't be in the equation.

Doesn't make sense to have so many workers around not doing work. You can always rehire workers when needed. Hired worker with the correct skill set too. Even better.

This is such a tired, stupid saying. Has any other company hung on to all employees when their products stopped selling?
