Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Reduced hours

Has anyone else had their full time hours reduced to part time? I’m AP and was full time before Covid and after our initial re-open (was part of first group invited back from furlough). After the reorganization of the company, management asked me to go down to part time hours. No idea for how long. Any ideas or input?

OP here - I decided to clarify with management what my part time position was going forward. I've been informed that my full time position was eliminated altogether and replaced with/reduced to a part-time position. The old OAPM who posted in this thread was accurate as their experience was very similar to mine - my store went from 2 full time APD's to 1 and 1 part-time. I was originally left under the impression that my hours would go back up when business was better. Should've clarified at the beginning, glad I know now. Best wishes to everyone out there!

Coming from the previous OAPM to the person who copied and pasted my response and said thats not how it works. You are correct however the Original Poster stated he was asked so it sounds as though he agreed to take the part time. Since he agreed he is likely stuck. If there is no longer a full time job available for him. Reading is essential.Good luck to you.

I started as seasonal, than moved to flex time then to part time , then early this year I was made flex time again without notification (I only found out when I looked at my job title for my resume). Of course then I received an email that I was not being called back and of course had no severance. So based on that I wouldn't bet on anything.

No one will be guaranteed anything because at the end of the day it's just business. This company, like so many others going thru this, owes you nothing. The Coronavirus has seen to that. Anybody who was FT now working as PT won't be guaranteed a FT position down the road, and if they DO get one, it may be only for however long they need it. Remember, going back as a FT from PT doesn't guarantee anything with regards to your coverage.

"Coming from previous OAPM. Many of our AP budgets were reduced. I used to have 2 fulltimers and 1 part timer. I lost a fulltime job. My guess is that you are permantely a partimer now and that your full time job was elliminated"

Ummmm...no...that's not how it works.
You can't eliminate a ft job and tell the person they will be pt. The person would have to be notified their ft was going away and offered the chance to remain PT or be severanced. These are not comparable jobs in hours or benefits. If he's ft he will be again shortly.. Most stores reopened with people working fewer hours than usual, temporarily until business improves.

I was part time at 20 hours pre-shut down. Then I got told I was coming back and it would be 12 hours per week. Then I got a letter of separation and severance from the company. I said I would take the separation.
