I am disappointed this morning to find nothing at all ( at this writing ) from the CWA in any mainstream news feeds. Doesn't collecting dues obligate them to at least a little vocalized indignation?

Good try Troll. I'm sorry your disappointed. I'll contact Att CNN for you.
Right now CWA isn’t saying much since this is a good voluntary buyout for members that want to leave. They should be running to every media outlet and representative if headcount isn’t replaced or surplussed in the next quarter or two while jobs are being sent overseas.
All the reasons have been explained ad nauseam on this board.
Tax reductions, government contracts, getting various H1-visa approvals, not being held accountable for the lies told to make mergers or purchases of other companies, etc...
CWA is a joke! Back when I was a RSC I tried to avoid joining as long as I could, but they lied and said I "had to". Once I became a manager and had to deal with grievances I realized how little they really did. They basically feed most employees a bunch of garbage and scam your hard earned money away. There are positions where I believe they were more impacting and beneficial, but that's the minority of positions they work with. You shouldn't be surprised by their silence at all.
Ummm..almost every CWA union member realizes that the CWA and its head officers no longer represents their members effectively. We're just riding this out till the end!!
The company is trying to break union through headcount reductions. CWA Execs better wake up before their paychecks go bye bye too. Membership in the Southeast showed this past contract we are willing to fight for fair pay and benefits with a Strike but if we keep going backwards on benefits and work rules before long folks will quit or not join up anymore. Going backwards every contract isn’t an option anymore.
Yes the company may finally win out and get the lowest paid labor with little to no benefits but we’ve all seen how that works out for the American worker.
I agree, it’s the loss of total head count and they won’t be replaced. I’m in I&R we haven’t had anyone replaced in my group for several years. Originally had 17 FT repairmen a few years ago, now there are only 2 of us left and we are combined with a Install ST crew that is now down to 5 (used to be 15). We lost a total of 3 between both titles to this voluntary/future surplus and we work in a busy major metropolitan area. The new optimization bulk list s—s because it’s sending techs all over the place, we go work other turfs and they come work ours. Then at end of day management calls for force back to our area because all the jobs haven’t been caught and that can be over an hours drive back.
Every time someone retires, transfers, dies, PMR or quits they aren’t replaced. We’ve had all of these situations occur but we are forced or have connecting OT offered every day because it’s cheaper than replacing someone. Also all my HO (optional holidays) are bought out because of service requirements. It appears we are headed back to the old sweatshop days for those that survive the layoffs.
Thankful to be employed but totally wore out after this has been going on for years now with no relief. It’s time for me to dust of the resume and start looking elsewhere.
I think the OP was referring to the loss in total Craft head count slots. Leaving under favorable conditions is certainly a win for the employee.
As far as I can tell, as far as occupational is concerned, it's an all-volunteer operation. Anyone see a volunteer leaving without an ear-to-ear smile? If CWA was complaining on this, they wouldn't be representing a whole lot of folks.
" welcome to the cwa. they allow all of this..."
CWA does not "allow" or "disallow" anything. So many of you are under the delusion that CWA has some kind of say in the company's business decisions. Wake up. They don't.
I don’t think there is any need for action on the unions part. Here in Ibew 21 we have more takers than the Company was looking for with the Enhanced Sipp packed. No one will be losing there job involuntarily. I’m sure CWA areas are in the same position. The 80k plus was a good deal and many jumped on it.
Did bargained for people get the ax this week? I thought I'm reading managers.
I will be getting out of the Union the last week of July :)
Quote Simple. CWA's'precipitous decline is bone-deep in the American psyche, dating all the way back to the country's founding, that has simply made the country less fertile ground for labor unions.
🦗 that the sound of CWA.
Crybabies With Attitudes
Weak union. In with management. Always has been.
They can issue a press release talking about layoffs and tax cuts but as long as the company follows the contract there is nothing they can do legally. Get a few Democratic congressmen to issue a statement talking about the same bullet points. Company will come back talking about technological changes and now the virus impact. Most of the general public doesn’t care and a lot still believe that layoffs are due to the elimination of rotary phones.

@OP, they represent EMPLOYED techs
CWA inform members??? What cloud are you on. That ship sailed 20 years ago. This is a dues collection organization. That about it. The give backs in the last 20 years only show that the union is under the sheets with the company, not to mention the incompetent union representatives.
welcome to the cwa. they allow all of this, say the minimum, and are only used to play gotcha against management that write documentation incorrectly to save bad employees yet still demand you pay them between 15-20 a month because “your rights”
It has nothing to do with the contract whatsoever so they have no leg to stand on. It’s inevitable so quit hoping things change when the list has been made for who is unfortunately losing their jobs.
