There will be even more cuts in Q4 as there will be another frightening loss. If you can't see this you are unable to read (a distinct possibility knowing Schlumberger's recruitment style), a true Cheerleader (where are they all now?) or a Schlumbertron, either way will not save your butt-kissing jobs.
For the rest of you folks, get ready to witness the best free show on earth since Breaking Bad as all the grades start ruthlessly jockeying for position, it's gonna be a true spectacle.

The cuts will not be extremely minimal, they will be deep cuts and felt across the company. 21,000 more in the 2nd quarter in addition to the 15,000 that have already cut in the 1st quarter.

How's that working out for you?

Under the goals of diversity and gender balance, a lot of employees were placed on the IM wagon. Many are really not qualified, but they fit the apparent criteria to meet the objectives of these goals. I'm sorry but it is misguided and it held back the truly qualified forcing SLB to pay the price in the long run. By the way, as I pointed out to the company supposedly anonymously - for which I may have paid the ultimate corporate price - SLB's concept of gender is outdated according to the so-called gender experts. If you go by their gender definition-which appears to be that their is no real definition- that gender is a spectrum with no clear dividing line between the gradations, then how can one know when the goals are met? It's mind boggling, but apparently the woke gender folk have not made an impact yet within SLB management.

What does "IM" stand for in your context?

Lots of negative comments, some justified but most not.

IM positions (generally, not always) are for high potential employees, that have been identified for greater things - they move regularly, often into positions they are not qualified for, but grow with ease into those positions - the key word here is potential. These guys, usually have a good and Long career.

With a few exceptions, home country employees have a job not a career. Being good in your current grade is insufficient to be kept, you need to excel and have the potential to succeed in the next grade - otherwise you are deadwood, safe in the good times, but totally expendable in the downturns.

My advice, quit whining, use the knowledge and experience to rebound.

The tone exhibited in most of the comments here, readily demonstrate why you are not the type of person SLB wants to move forward with.

BTW, I was an SLB casualty in 2003 as an IM

Americans value their degrees more because it costs them A LOT more as well... 10 years paying student loans must be properly valued eh... If you ask them which healthcare is better they will say theirs, because they also value being ripped off by a system designed for profit and not patient well being.

Exactly. Paradoxically, they get the masters degrees from here in order to appeal better to hiring managers here

NotAynRand "I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you Bob" Office Space quote. Non US degrees typically aren't as good as US degrees especially in engineering. We have governing bodies over accreditation and this is checked on a regular basis. I've been in undergraduate engineering courses where the masters students from abroad were required to go to so they could understand the concepts before continuing their masters courses. These students were from India, China, N—ria as well as the Middle East. I'm sure that they are great students, but if the education was that good, they wouldn't flock over here to get a masters degree.

I completely agree with Atlas Shrugged. International people working in the US are as valuable as American people and they came here legally. Non-US degrees are as valuable as US degrees, they just don't cost an arm and a leg.

A fat paycheck Cameron's Indian former VP turned manager last year who was based in Houston was kicked out last week...

That one was no surprise... Harvard MBA and all B.S.

The real character of people is revealed at the time of adversity. I do understand the need to protect American jobs. But to package entire expats as useless, perhaps the first thing to realize is Schlumberger was started by two french brothers and was not the brain child of Americans. If an organisation is biased and we think it's not doing justice, be bold ,quit the job and find a new way of life...if we can't do that, that reveals who is redundant and who is not.

HR people are almost done re-assigning themselves to 'safe' jobs in areas with good financials.

People are still getting jobs for who they know and whose b*#ls they carry. No regard for actual delivery and performance. What a s—er. Some of the positions are just mind boggling, given to b—s—ters.

This way, SLB will continue to report bad quarters!!

Repatriate families costs serious money... It's cheaper and faster to kick an American a$#... I think expats are in the roadmap to be dealt with but not right now...

24th July is the second quarter results announcement. The results, according to Le P., are going to be horrendous. The last week of July is going to be interesting. Seismic shifts approaching.

Great, I frankly do not see keeping expats in the payroll without the educational credentials to back up a much needed expertise to win in the new O&G market mix. There is no way a "champion" or a "SME" can steer the company in the right direction without a thorough understanding on SLB's competitive advantages. We need to have ZERO discretionary resources allocation and strictly choose people based on merits as opposed to just being nice to "that guy that hosts great parties" or "the s&u*c(((ker that is always echoing his / her manager says.

Cut the expats now...starting with demoted champions that are now MANAGERS or DATA ANALYSTS (which by the way can be replaced immediately by local people).
