Is it possible that the reason T is playing the mind game of stressing the workers out is to get them to quit so they won't have to pay severance and/or unemployment?

It seems many on the wireline side of the house are under the impression there is tremendous growth on the Mobility side. This is completely incorrect. We have had many surplus events right along with you. We have been doing more with less for quite some time now.
No , don't read into any intentions. T decisions are all based on Wall St. And the bean counters . Entire divisions at the company whose goal is to streamline and cut inefficiency.
Now with the pandemic, big legacy corporations like T get a free clean house card, since they along with many others will use the cover of the pandemic to cut jobs.
Well Team Copper is going to ride this out! We're not quitting..we're collecting bi-weekly! Looks like the self proclaimed "New Side of the House" will be battling for their careers from quarter to quarter. Talk about stressful..sure is with so much time needed to work in a career.
I have been hearing about the imminent death of copper for the last 25 years ! As long as we have house alarms , fire alarms , automatic gates and old people attached to a line that wont go out in a storm , we will have copper. Thank you PUC for looking out for all of us !
Seems to me that if one works in the wireless side of the house, you're fine. If you're on the copper side of the house, that is obsolete. Those workers shouldn't feel any more secure than those at Smith Corona (typewriter) or other obsolete businesses. Copper can handle a 1080p TV right now. It can handle a 4096p tv. New codecs are saving copper for now. But eventually copper won't be able to handle contemporary bandwidth, and it will be gone.
Right now it isn't competitive with cable. Perhaps in 5 years, it won't be competitive with wireless. But in the meanwhile, it's going to be in decline. So, if you're in occupational, look into test qualifying for jobs on the wireless side of the house. I'm smart enough to qualify for a wireless technician's job, but too stupid to pass the sales test to qualify me to be a CSR.
When that job offer guarantee comes along, a lot rides on what you are basically qualified for. 😉

Probably so. I left last year. I was tired of all the sheep to the slaughter games AT&T plays. I decided to jump ship and take another job while I still had a job. I didn't get a severance but I got a much less stressful job, lower blood pressure, and a better work environment.

It makes sense to me. I would much rather get hit sooner rather than later. The waiting is horrid.
