Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

HBO Max Future

Are these forecasts based on reality?
May 28 - AT&T estimates that HBO Max will have 50 million subscribers in the United States by 2024

June 1 - AT&T said HBO Max could reach 75 million to 90 million subscribers by 2024

Does anyone know the current subscriber count?

Personally, launching and not having agreements with the two largest steaming devices... roku and fire stick.. is one of the biggest failures I’ve seen in a while. No word yet as to any progress on obtaining a deal either. It’s unimaginable that we would launch and have fewer downloads of the app on the first day than half of the number of employees that we have and we get it for free. Yet here we are and as far as competing with content ... how about streaming quality? Netflix has 4k and at no point has there been any specs provided or promoted with max... just hd.. no details.. people want and need to know but whomever made that decision to just not disclose any of that obviously assumes the general consumer is too stupid to know or care to know .. failures on an epic scale that were completely avoidable.

Att is doing the same thing that fails over and over again.

Buying old IP and thinking repackaging it will make people buy it.

How many times do they have to keep failing with the same formula to realise that they need NEW stuff to get people to buy into it.

Don’t get me wrong, rewatching the sopranos is nice but not at a monthly sub. Not unless there is a constant flow of original content. People rather have Netflix

They have been pushing Unlimited Elite w/ HBO MAX hard and I mean HARD. It will bolster subscriptions but they are free with the plan. Will be more subs since its free.

I doubt our target audience, the average millennial, has even head of HBO Max.

This quarters results are to be disclosed on July 23rd.

The full impact of Covid-19 will be the dominant factor.

I am dubious as to whether T will even deign to disclose numbers for HBO Max - might not with the excuse that the rollout was done mid-quarter and is therefore exempt from disclosure.

Or, they could tout some number that if you drilled down would be the number of employee accounts, plus freebie giveaways and yes, padded "sign-ups" from our honest folks at the company stores.

In either case, it will pale in comparison to the huge Disney+ rollout - most likely closer to Quibi in take rate.

I fear that this will be yet another fecal log spinning in the toilet of grand ambitions.

50 million, that was a pie-in-the-sky number they gave Wall St. to pump their chests last year, its pure fiction. Assuming the don't "game" the numbers like they did with Direct TV Now subscriber counts, they'll be lucky to have a million or two by years end.. There's a massive economic storm brewing and the last thing unemployed people want to do is subscribe to some TV service.. HBOMax will big a bigger flop than the Edsel.

You should only believe the numbers given by Stankey, he knows more about TV than ANYONE! Anything else you here is complete BS.

I am curious about the 50 million plus projections since HBO proper has never come close to that level of subscription. Last I looked, 30 million was their historical peak.

Are there really 20 million people looking to rewatch Friends for the umpteenth time?

If you are not willing to pay more than netflix costs while getting content from 1990s, it means you have low IQ and may need to get a lobotomy since you can't get woke.

I don’t think any numbers have been released for MAX. But subscriber growth is misleading, what might matter more is how much new profit or revenue it brings in. Seems like they could easily get millions of subscribers by bundling it with other existing services or with any existing HBO subscription.
