Macy's has been trying to cut its way to profitability for years now and every single time it failed. There's a temporary bump and then we're back to square one. So when will they learn that this is not the way to go? That maybe, just maybe they should try a different approach for once?

Unfortunately with the worldwide economic crisis, these cuts were actually required to survive.
I will agree however that top level executives seem to be completely out of touch. We just keep throwing new half-baked strategies at the wall and hope something works. Every year there’s a new strategy and by April everyone stops talking about it.
You sound like management , are you really sorry for any “ involuntary “ employment separation? Your condescending and clueless, nobody said Macy’s was a terrible , horrible , unimaginable, awful place to work.
What they did to dedicated long term employees by getting rid of them and replacing with part time employees is unconscionable.
It was a great place to work and some might have felt trapped with those benefits that you describe.
However, sometimes the love you may have for the company blinds you to the fact so many wrong decisions are made by Jeff, Patti, John, Marc, Dennis, Naveen.
For me, it was when North Star turned into Polaris and closure of SF. (Worlds tech hub) that I realized our strategies are not aligned with the future
Some outside leadership is needed and some of those above people need to go. It is way past their time for relevance and they are not the best people to lead for today’s retail climate.
Company is trying to survive. Macy’s WAS a sweet deal. Good salary, health benefits, 401k, PTO. Sorry for anyone who suffered “involuntary” employment separation. It’s horrible. However, if Macy’s is/was the horrible, unimaginable, terrible, awful ... why did you continue to work and sacrifice your time and talent?
