Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

I told you so...

Several weeks ago I replied to those that said they had Macy's back, that they did not have ours. I am not bragging or gloating because after 21 years I was one that got a call stating I would not be brought back.

It's time for some of my co-workers to realize that we are nothing but a number to the higher ups anymore. We have gone from being a valued asset to just being a value on a balance sheet.

To everyone who is being let go, I sincerely hope you find something soon and things work out. For those who are staying, I can't say it enough watch your backs!

Agree. They just need time to contact every single person. Not enough time in day to go over severance with everyone at that time.

To post id @j nz+15Ds5tdV, I was not told my severance package today. I was told it would be discussed later due to the number of other people who had to be contacted.

Stores absolutely need Visual Merchandisers. Macy’s will soon find out. Same as when Jeff assumed CEO responsibility and stated, “forward focus on investment in employees when they realized 50% of their business was supported by the 10% of Elite card holders.” 2017 I believe? No matter, Visual team and Visual Merchandisers created Macy’s Magic and sales. All down hill from here.

To Post ID: @yup+15Ds5tdV I truly hope you are not at this worthless company because if you are your time will come sooner than later. You are insensitive and cruel calling people names in a time like this. The letter I read from "them" means nothing. If you take the time to read it instead of calling names you will see people do not count it's all about the dollar sign. From what I have seen from when I use to shop in the stores, there is a lot of WASTE. AND POOR LEAERSHIP. The people are not the problem, it how they operate a business, but someone has to be blamed. Eventually, pay the ultimate price.

Rumors of visual's demise have been greatly exaggerated!!!

In my district/ division/ region (or whatever they're calling it), NONE of the visual associates were let go. Some of the managers were moved to other positions and a couple were let go. But all of the visual teams stayed, from what I can tell.

I don't know how other regions faired.

Did they tell you what your severance would be? Is there a maximum amount of severance for employees who have worked for Macy's 15 or 20 years or more?

Amazon will be buying Macy’s in 3 years. They will be acquiring jcpenny first and see what they can do with it. It’s sad but distribution is the name of the game so let’s play

They’re a literally just gonna get the regular associates to do the visual without the pay raise. There’s been plenty of times my leads were suppose to do a display and then it got dumped on me.

Stores don't need visual merchandising? End of an Era, visual merchandising will no longer exist in any significant way, stores will look like a warehouse, a messy warehouse. Bottom lines are essential yes, but HR leadership and the CEO made extremely poor judgments, it will hurt how the company will be perceived by customers in its appearance and customer service by keeping as many doors open, and slicing staff, merging skilled specialties with task driven jobs. Any store visit, new season or lagging sales were always assigned to visual to run and strategize how the company was going to increase sales. Any store visit whether good or bad was always based on the visual strength on the building. The same merchandise will be bought as it has for decades, not taking risks and continue to be a slave to GIII (Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, DKNY) who are a significant amount of the shareholders. The people that are all about spreadsheets (not saying that planners and buyers are not essential too) and don't look beyond their laptop screens and the are considered hero's. What good is merchandise in a department store if it cannot be shown at its best? Job cuts had to happen but Macys told everyone loud and clear that visual merchandising doesn't matter, they do not see it as a skill set. Once the stores are a dump, they'll realize, but it will be too late.
