My good old American colleagues were laid off this April-March or offered early retirement packages. My visa holders colleagues kept their jobs: Brazil, Venezuela, UK. These guys are good, don't get me wrong, but why am I jobless and receiving unemployment benefits while there are people in this country on work visas? I am 35 y.o. was screwed over by the company and by the country. Where are the protests? I will join them!
No more silence!

Too many employees on visa. These people also promote themselves and have no skills whatsoever. It is who you know and not what you know in this company. It is just a shame.
He probably meant April 2019 to March 2020. Or maybe he sees everything upside down, in which case SLB is better off without him!
It should be March-April in your comment. SLB is better without you
Take a look at the Megadiamond situation in Provo, Utah. SLB purchased a technology company (Novatek) there, merged it with Megadiamond, and then brought in their own H1-B manager once the merger was completed. They shipped out one of the previous managers and then started to layoff the managers and engineers from Novatek. The H1-B manager, Olivier Sindt, possesses no special skills related to the business that required all these Americans to be fired, thus preserving his job until his visa runs out. He came into the position not knowing anything about the technology, customers, or products, meanwhile those that did know, are all gone. Great way to run a business, eh?
It’s cheaper to lay you off than it would be to lay off someone the company spent lots of money on relocating or sponsoring. If you are American, you are expendable. If you are a USA vet, you are on the top of the list.
Visa is one of the factors for sure. But really good luck- that is all you need, favoritism does exist but if lucky, above B rated and a bosses favorite you will be okay.
I know I was A rated for nearly 20 years and as a result various bosses favorite, top person changed no longer their favorite employee and my luck ran out- I believe I am still good but no longer favorite hence no longer slb employee.
I’m sorry- but I need to give my 2c here...
Anybody that says (in effect) “I want the government to secure my job and force publicly-owned companies to hire a certain profile of employee, so I’m going to vote for the party that constantly demonizes socialism and big government”, needs to look again at their situation.
Also, admitting you will consciously vote for somebody who is “crazy”- which he is not, he’s just clinically egotistical and unknowingly stupid- does nothing to bolster the impression you are presenting.
Thousands and thousands of very smart, hard-working people like yourself are being fired across the globe right now. So while I appreciate it is tough, try not to take it personally and vilify other people. It’s all simply down to the bottom line and someone else’s opinion.
BTW…
A friend of mine in the US was fired just yesterday- and this part will please you.... they’re a foreigner!
And let’s hope the managers of my American friends working in Indonesia and Angola and Russia and China and Egypt and UK and Brazil and Canada don’t read your post.
"You seriously think that ..." You missed the point a bit. Volatility is one thing, that I can handle. Being replaced by foreign colleagues is another. There is no job I cannot do. If "There.Is.No.Work", but at least some Work for somebody, then foreign workforce must to go home. November 3, 2020 the orange guy (as crazy as he is) has my vote!
"I am 35 y.o. was screwed over by the company and by the country."
You seriously think that being released due to lack of work is being "screwed over" by SLB or the COUNTRY?! Were you expecting to be left on the payroll when the company is hemorrhaging money without consistent, foreseeable steady work? There. Is. No. Work. The industry will take years to recover. Quit taking it personally and quit whining. No one screwed you over, if you cant handle the swings then dont work in a volatile industry.
You are not alone.
