Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Many States have reopened.

Many States have reopened and no BN stores have. Books A Million stores are open. Used book stores are open. Before I get accused of being an ex employee with a grudge- I’m not. I called the store and spoke to someone last week . Was told no plans to reopen yet. Wonder why. If they were concerned with making money you’d think they’d be open along with the other stores.

Like most of their customers, we have given up waiting for Barnes & Noble to reopen.

Are any of the opened BNs open for their full hours? If they are opening at shortened hours, that means the full staff isn't be coming back and some employees are going to be remain furloughed for a while.

Called BN (for curbside pickup) For 3 books. All bestsellers. They had only 1 in stock. Checked Amazon. They had all 3,in stock! And with next day delivery, still less expensive than BN !
How can they expect customer loyalty?

BN’s customer service has deteriorated even more.
They need to be willing to make Customers happy ( isn’t that the number one rule in retail?!) like Amazon does.

Can’t feel sorry for anyone who stayed after BN treated long time employees the way they did.
Can’t feel sorry for anyone who took jobs replacing those fired.
If you’re treated badly by BN, based on what they’ve done before, what did you expect ?

The stores look identical to before the pandemic. Only a few shelves have been moved around, big whoop. I was honestly expecting to come in a see a drastically different store. No one made you apply to work at BN.

Stores are reopening. The stores look great after getting new layouts and fixtures. We have all our management staff, children’s lead, cafe lead, 3-4 part-timers not including the receiver. We opened yesterday and it went smoothly. Those who say we should be fired or wish us harm need to stop it, Barnes and Noble is a different company than before and even in this economy it’s surviving.

"BN deserves to be shut down and all employees fired."

All employees fired?

How dare you wish destitution to people trying to get by no matter their current job.

This isn't very nice and helpful.

I visited three stores today. They are all identical and no changes have been made from before the pandemic. This is seriously disappointing. I really do believe BN it is time for you to close. You gave it a shot a failed miserably. BN deserves to be shut down and all employees fired.

What a joke.

10 to 15 years in the same position and that's a career at low wages?

REOPEN, B&N!

So why do you want them to reopen ?
If they can’t pay their employees decently I hope they go out of business.

"Been working there for years"

And I bet your pay reflects that of a person who just started.

Bookseller? Get real - over rated cashier and stock clerk

I work at a very big store in NJ. It's a flagship store and it will re-open with a full staff. WE are two levels with Cafe and Music. We are strong and ready to serve the public the best service they are expecting. WE have a great crew. I went back as soon as they asked for volunteers from furlough to work and make sure everything was great. Been working there for years and it's a legendary store and crew.

Oh, so you thought you were special? I take it you were around in Feb 2018 when they fired most of the long term full timers who thought they were special too. Don't blame Barnes and Noble for doing what Barnes and Noble does. Blame yourself, or keep quiet.

Yes, employees who worked, 10/15/ over 20yrs, thought they were “special” , making a career w/ BN.
Don’t blame BN?
You must be in management there.
It’s disgusting the way they treated their long time , career booksellers.
Keep quiet ?
NEVER !

I hope you at least were paid for working while the store was technically closed; if not, vow never to do anything so stupid like that again! We all make mistakes.

You say “tell the truth”?
They are reopening but the staffing is going to be around four people per shift. It will be so minimal that they are essentially laying off 90 percent of the staff. This is direct from my management. Worked very hard while we were closed and now with things reopening I'm going to have to find another job. Absolutely f— this company, they will use and then dispose of you regardless of what you've done for them.

THERE’S your truth !
The stores that do open will lay off ( fire) many employees.
Some stores (that aren’t financially solvent) will not reopen.
Like it or not- THAT is your TRUTH !

No one is being laid off. This is NOT true.

The stores must be made safe and then they will ALL re-open.

Why would they re-fixture and set up the stores for a new fresh look if they weer not re-opening?

Please tell the truth

“ They will ALL reopen. Maybe they are still doing some fine tuning in their new displays.”
NO , not all. That comes straight from 2 people I personally know, who work in corporate!
Say I’m wrong all you want.
Say I’ve got a grudge.
Say I’m an ex employee.
You’d be wrong on all counts. I still work for Barnes.

I get that each state is different. Just stating that in MY State, MY city, Books a Million is OPEN, 3 used bookstores are OPEN. And yet, BN is NOT. The opportunity is allowed and they’re not taking it. It’s far from the statement months ago that they would only close, if forced to. The
I doubt they’ll reopen this location, or they would’ve.
