Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Some things will never change

Now that we know who's gone and who's here to stay - at least for this round - it's obvious once again that nepotism runs rampant at IBM.

When people say nobody is safe from layoffs, I always have to laugh at how naive they sound. Maybe you and I are not safe, but I've seen incompetent people with little to no knowledge of their jobs stay in their positions while some of the best employees are laid off too many times to count. Why? Because they are related to or friends with the right people.

And apparently even a pandemic doesn't change that fact.

I really haven’t seen the nepotism, can you elaborate?

If you want change, then everyone has to feel like they have a stake in the future of IBM. Right now the us vs them (management vs worker bees) is toxic. You want real change, make everyone feel like they are rowing the boat in the same direction. How do you do that? Make everyone share the burden. Right now worker bees have shared the burden with management skating. AK change the it’s us vs them Via realigning pay. Make a cut across the board (10% for the lower ranking work force to 33% for the upper bands), pay wise. Put the money saved into a fund that Can only be distributed if some public metric is met. I would use revenue growth as the measure and make it based on all of IBM. Everyone is rowing toward one goal (revenue growth) IBM as a whole either makes it, or doesn’t. Every benefits, or everyone suffers. Individual dept performance can be rewarded via bonuses and performance appraisals. Today HR has lost control of IBM, (appraisal and performance wise), so folks find places to hide which encourages nepotism. Time to hit CTL alt delete and take back IBM from the folks who are skating. Use Watson’s game plan. Build a team!

This is so true for IBM. Don’t think this is true for other good companies but for IBM the reason it’s doomed is because almost all exec positions are filled by incompetent people due to nepotism and they keep getting more power with every lay-off. This is because they know they have to protect their kind.
