Anyone who thinks this is a silly comment or stupid thing to do hasn't seen the rest of the world change. It isn't that far fetched that a "headhunter" type of company could run your service for you with qualified people on contract basis. With this many qualified people out of work, a company could offer up contracts to unemployed people and NOV can get rid of the overhead. It actually makes sense in dollars, but it does take away the ability to say "we are the experts" and does make it look like you've been lying for over 50 years when you said, "Only we can fix it the right way."

Then again, maybe if NOV would have taken better care of their customers and charged a little less back in the day their clients wouldn't have figured out how to do all this work without them. NOV has been training Drilling Contractors to fend for themselves for decades now so it's no surprise that now they don't have enough work to support the teams.
