Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Be satisfied

Intel is one of the most automated fabs in the world. With all the automation improvements, why are people still essentially putting in unpaid overtime? Intel needs to be satisfied at some point. The fab needs to be focused on continuous improvement, but the VF should be focused on a subset of goals at a time.

You must have never been in any competitor fab ever. I can assure you Intel's automation cvapabilities are laughable in comparison to every other 300mm fab out there. Intel may of had the lead in automation at one time, likely 15 years ago...

There is a lot to complain about in terms of repetivtive commands, incapable automated processing, primitive APC, atrocious SPC. All of it is rather laborious with the repeated key strokes tell the system the same thing redundantly, all the disparate systems that require huge overhead to maintain, and one little change causes the whole system to come falling down tracing which part of it went bad. Not to mention having to remote into so many various systems to accomplish trivial task. The automation as a whole is quite rudimentary and very much manual, highly prone to error and with very limited trackability. Unfortunately Intel culture will suggest the fix is to throw more bodies at the problem rather than do some external benchmarking and eliminate the pain points. Too many that only know Intel and worship it, in love with their own archaic in house trappings, ignorant or negligent to more elegant and robust systems that our competitors are using to work faster, cheaper, and with more precision.
Look outside for some radical improvements and push through the inertia to make life better for all, or struggle to stay relevant and effective.
