Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Team of 10, 5 RA'd

Out of a team of 10, 5 were RA'd and all were older White Male. Out of the remaining 5 (4 are minorities. 2 Indian, 1 Hipanic, 1 African American, 1 Female) Have you seen this as well? GTS same package.

If you want to know what this means, it's most likely that you older white guys were making significantly more than the minorities and the woman. The cut the expensive people and kept the cheap ones.

So far.. 2 older white males (higher pay) 2 younger minority women (1 higher pay, 1 lower), 1 younger white female (lower pay). Doesn’t really seem to be a clear pattern in my group.

They are laying off US workers for sure. And most likely targeting older ones who make more $.

The above itself is a valid case for discrimination. Why lay off US workers and keep the folks on H1B's?
H1B's are hired as the company is unable to find qualified people locally [this is the BS given by the company]. Now, if they are going to layoff older experienced folks and keep the H1B's, this is nothing but discrimination and misuse of H1B visas.

Are the 2 Indians in H1B visa? Is the manager an Indian guy? This is very painful. So, as per the dumbo manager, the 5 Older white male were not good enough technically and not performing? Or they were simply cut due to their high salary? This is stab in the back to American people. STOP hiring H1B's. The older 5 white males should sue IBM for age discrimination.

My bf was let go & he’s black. White older males have higher pay, keep that in mind.

Companies like IBM or my former company PepsiCo know how to play the lay-off game. They spread out and diversify to avoid lawsuits. My advice is find a new job and don’t look back.

Not true. I know of five who got laid off. 2 were white and 3 were immigrants so it's not about race or majority/minority.
I got laid off and I'm late 30s.

In my area it hit women, men, g–, straight, aged from late 20's -50+ This time they made sure they couldn't be sued by ensuring a nice diverse population was selected.

Agreed. this is NOT about laying off white males. IBM has done plenty of unscrupulous things, but I strongly believe they are not targeting white males!

They are laying off US workers for sure. And most likely targeting older ones who make more $. But, I don't think they care which race they come from or what gender. In that sense, I believe they are an equal opportunity company - in their firings.

Please let's not go down the other path of blame. That won't be good for anyone on this board.
