Thread regarding Belk layoffs

sales are great!!! Yea right!

Oh yea Belk sales are great!!! We are beating last years numbers by far!!! Well why did belk lay off 80 in February, cut employee insurance benefits? Take away PTO? Lower store spending for supplies? Cut payroll to bare minimum? Cut manager salaries during covid? And the list goes on....

I read in here somewhere that a person that had been with the company 15 yrs was asked to leave and got only a 3,000 package. So any hourly associate that wants to go should if they can. There's nothing waiting for you with this company. They're taking not giving.

I got out on my own.
In 10+ years I was not allowed to move up into any better position, but I was allowed to have my job "re-written" and altered at their whim. I was also "allowed" to do the work of other, higher paid folks including managers, but not allowed to have those jobs or pay rates. All I got were excuses and platitudes.
I left with full intention to sit on my backside for about a half a year and live off of my investments/interest. And I actually felt a little guilty for leaving, thinking I was foolish for walking away from either a golden handshake (aka "package" that was never an option) or unemployment insurance.
Within 2 days, I found a new employer and started the new job at double what I was making at the Belk. Ain't it funny how one gets fooled into being complacent for so long.. I honestly do not know how I got into that rut and allowed myself to tolerate their nonsense for so long.
Best decision I have made in ages.

Look, peoples..
Naysayers, bots, plants, moles, shills as well as the genuinely affected and concerned– when a business sends a PDF to its employees that suggests that they "seek work at another employer" for any reason, it is a sign that things are going bad.
Things have been going bad for this dreadful company more than 2 years. Retail doesn't work like it used to in the traditional sense, and some businesses, like the Belk, just won't make it because, in this case, the company that owns it is garbage.
Sycamore Partners is c-ap, Belk CEOs are trash, and the incompetence of store-level management is rampant.

Some managers drink the kool aid and believe what they are being told. Nobody with common sense could manage this place.
