Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Will furloughs become lay-offs?

How many of us will be allowed back, as the economy reopens?

Anyone know the basic strategy, as the company has the option to terminate.
Not saying they will, but what would make the most financial sense?

I doubt many furloughed people return because they most likely wont be scheduled.

That’s called, being FIRED !

At my store all furloughed employees are still in dayforce. They arent coming back as new hires. Theyll come back at their old pay like they never left, if they choose to return. The real issue is stores having hours to give to everyone. I doubt many furloughed people return because they most likely wont be scheduled.

Then my mgr & DM ,here in TN ,are jacka**’
Told all the part timers they were TERMINATED. And full timers ( Mgrs) will be back but leads may not and start at day one when (if) they return. VERY confusing and leaves us up in the air.

Our store is close to reopening, they will need staff.
I can't imagine them saying: We need you back, you're starting as a new employee.
That makes no sense.

I'm not saying everyone will return, but those that do, are not going to be
starting from scratch.

And the furlough letter clearly explained it was not a termination.

Why can't we get any legitimate responses on here, byw?

Why would you want to go back? BN is a horrible place to work. I wonder if I can start naming names and store locations?

Furloughs are layoffs. The money paid was your severance and they paid you the balance of vacation time they owed you.
You’ll either be asked back ( and you’ll start new. With no sick time, vacation time, etc.)or you’ll never hear from them again.
