Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Let's make some bets....

Bet 1: Store Managers will not see their pay cut returned after 90 days.

Bet 2: When they start to bring people back, it is not going to be at the same rate of pay that they left. Unless they were already making min wage. Pay cuts for everyone!

Bet 3: They won't have sent enough masks to stores for when they start bringing people back.

Bet 4: If they do manage to meet their allocation of two masks per employee, it is going to be a rough time getting them to send replacement masks.

Bet 5: They're going to offer us little more than masks for way of protection.

I have already filed a complaint with OSHA. I encourage other store managers who are open to do the same. They're not concerned with their employees safety at all. They don't seem to realize that if we are not safe, then our customers will also not be safe.

And before someone reminds me that I should just quit and leave the company...? Trust when I say that I am making moves to do so. Once I have another opportunity lined up....

The masks that were supposed to ship this week have been delayed. Home office may have messed up and not ordered some masks for some sorts on top of that.

Still no resources for cleaning supplies. Once again advised to shop local stores for cleaning supplies while out and about. My store is open. I am there 5 days a week. By the time I have a chance to make a trip anywhere for anything, stores have already been picked clean.

At the same time, people are growing restless with staying indoors. My foot traffic is not the same as it normally is...but activity is picking up. Even if only to refund regalia for a failed commencement or return rental books.

The unemployment plan right now is very different. If you are at a loss of 10% or more of your pay and hours you will still collect, including the extra $600 a week.

Is this the same five year plan they were using when I was let go 5 years ago? Hmm. Math seems off.

There are other jobs out there. Even in a bad economy, people will be hiring. Evaluate your skills and find something that’s a fit. Ex employees are a great resource, because we all had to reinvent ourselves.

One would need to look into this.
I don't think a company can force you to come back to work with a pay cut or lose you unemployment.
Knowing how the family values each and every dollar they get in their dividends I would bet they would like it to be that way.
Check it out and delay coming back by claiming illness, self quarantine.
Using this international tragedy to maintain the family's wealth is just breathtaking. Other companies are offering bonuses, extra time off while Follett is dreaming up ways to screw their employees.
GREAT!

  • If you go back to work for Follett but only as part time, then check your state laws on unemployment. Depending on where you live and how much you work, you may still qualify for partial unemployment.
  • Correct that states don't like to pay out unemployment if you turn down work, unless there is something clearly not right about the offer (IE: trying to pay you under min wage).

Most states don't pay unemployment if you turn down work. If they offer 30 hours, and you have a question regarding you unemployment benefit, you'd best ask you local state legislature's office for some information. Constituent services is a great resource.
Even if you have to go back, you should continue to look for work. It's not a great hiring environment (another reason you'll go back if they ask). You've now experienced how quickly follett will cut you loose. Staying this decaying corpse of a company is a very poor option (if viewed in a 5 year plan). Get serious. Get out. But first, get paid.

Most states (maybe all??), less than32 hours is pt.
Therefore, no benefits. The family dividends thank you because we value each and every associate!

I dont know if they are required to provide mask but they are very difficult to come by. Cleaning supplies are even more difficult. Stores need help getting these things and the Home office could work with our vendors to make that happen.
