@hsw+14tW3Aj4 Exactly. Ford was in much, much worse shape in 2008-2009 than it is now, and the family still decided against selling out to investors willing to pay a premium. The dividend is how many family members make money. But more importantly, the family ownership is how family members wield power and influence. If their ownership went away they would just become trust fund heirs and the family's importance would disappear overnight. That's a fate worse than death for many family members.

Yeah anyone that thinks the ford family would sell their money-making asset and lose the possibility of future generations to run the company and continue to make money doesn’t understand the Ford family. I honestly think they’d rather see Ford die than lose control of it, look at the Lions. Any company that’d buy Ford would take the F-150 and drop the rest as unnecessary baggage, and even the Ford family knows that.

Not as long as there are prominent factions of the family still interested in running the company. Bill and EF have kids who are currently "working their way up" in the company and jockeying for position.
